My husband and I have started going to Stax for dinner once a week—and it’s quickly become one of our favorite routines. Last time we went, I tried their Greek Green Beans, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. They were so good, I specifically said I’d be getting them tonight.
When we order, our waitress tells me they’re not on the menu every day and rotate every few weeks. I was so bummed! My husband suggested I ask when they’d be back, so when a guy in a Stax polo passes by the table and asks how everything is, I decided to ask him. He explained the schedule (which is now saved in my phone with alert set!), and I made sure to tell him how much I loved them and that we’d definitely be back when they returned.
A little while later, as we’re eating, the same guy comes back out with a small bowl in hand. He said they weren’t exactly the same, but he tried to make a small serving for me as best he could and hoped they’d be close. I was SHOCKED! This is the type of kindness and care that gets a loyal customer. The thoughtfulness to do that is something I won’t forget.
I found out his name is Michael, and he’s one of the owners. Thank you, Michael, for going out of your way to make my day. Oh, and those green beans? They were delicious—I ate every single bite.
This is why I love small businesses. It’s the personal touches and care that make experiences like this so special. And if you’re in Greenville and haven’t been to Stax yet, what are you...
Read moreFood was ok. Service was fair at best. Prices were INSANE!! I had a ham&cheese omelette with a side of grits and a biscuit. To drink I had a small OJ. The problem came when I asked for diced tomatoes in my grits. The waitress stated she’d bring some tomato and I could dice it. No problem. My food came promptly and on a small plate were 3 slices of tomato. Nothing spectacular, just 3 slices of run of the mill tomato. The problem came when the check came. My meal, including the OJ , tomato and tax was $15.61 WHAT?! The omelette with grits was $8.75. The OJ was $2.35. The 3 run of the mill slices of tomato was $3.15. That’s $1.05 per slice. Are you kidding me? When asked if it were a typo, I was assured that it wasn’t. Currently, in the greater Greenville area, the RETAIL price of a pound of tomato is $2.89lb and I’m quite sure they get theirs at wholesale. When I balked at the price, I was given the brush off. When I stated that I would not be back, was told “ok, goodbye “. No attempt at providing a good customer experience. They think they can’t fail. So did...
Read moreThe past two visits were less than average. On the first of those visits, we sat at the counter and had horrible service and the food really bad that we didn't finish. (Both times for breakfast). This past time, we weren't sure if the service was bad or just not as bad because at least the server showed back up near our table.
The food this time (in the pictures) was not tasty but worse as everything came out cold. Although we both asked for water and I asked for coffee, water was dropped off and orders were taken from other tables and put in, then my coffee came as everyone around us got theirs. The eggs were to be over medium with whites well done. Hate runny whites. They slimed over the fork.
There aren't many places for a sit-down breakfast. We loved the cuteness of the place itself. The counter style. Definitely the counter itself... reminds you of the old-time soda fountain. Stax has that family business atmosphere and overall nice staff. We most likely...
