What a disappointment. There are really not many cases in which I am thinking very hard about a reason why to give a tip at all, but this was definitely one of them.
Not a particular great food quality, especially not when Hibachi is $20. The sushi was alright, but also hopelessly overpriced. 6 sashimi and a 6-piece tuna roll may not be worth $23 - the execution here was just disappointing. When you have staff preparing food in the open, then you probably want to see someone who takes care and pride in that effort, here it was just, well, food. That hibachi would be closer to $15 based on the meat quality and the sushi combo probably closer to $18.
If you order food that is vastly different (such as sushi and hibachi), it won't come out at the same time. The different parts of the kitchen do not talk to each other. The sushi came 15 minutes later than the Hibachi. The server did apologize and mentioned it was because of takeout food, but there wasn't really any takeout customer during the entire time we ordered and waited for our food. It was more accurate that she didn't notice the sushi waiting on the counter for more than 5 minutes. So I did not necessarily appreciate not being told the truth. Delays happen, but such comments are inexcusable from a customer point of view.
The saving grace for a second star is that both servers were overwhelmed with about 60% of the restaurant being full. From a customer point of view, that shouldn't matter, however, as you still pay the same price as if it was great service. The server noticed that we weren't happy, but, sometimes, an apology just isn't enough. Situational awareness and and approach how to mitigate issues would go a long way here.
All combined, low food quality, no coordination of delivery to the table, tables not being served in order of arrival, and questionable excuses make it very unlikely for us to return. I'd rather drive a little longer, and spend a little more for a better food quality and better service. All in all, one of the most disappointing dining experiences in a long time for me. It can only get better from here.

Three of my family members ate some cause our friend was kinda hesitant to eat it all cause we all questioned should it be raw. When waitress came back we asked what was it cause we thought if steak you have to cook it some she said she is new but it’s some Japanese dish. Like 10 minutes later she comes saying she forgot to bring us the cooker and we was suppose to cook it ourselves over the dish but we would be ok she would bring one more to “experience” it the right way. We felt it was so wrong and my husband complained but full bill later we leave paying 230 us and our friend his over 90 . I am typing this as I am peeing poop on the toilet with cold chills feeling nauseous. My husband is pooping at the store he stopped at. The guy that placed the order has chills and feels he is going to puke. My 15 year old I don’t know yet cause I can’t leave the bathroom. We left the restaurant and I came straight to the bathroom. The fact she served the food watched us eat it once we questioned what type of meat could be ate like that cause it looked like steak, she realizes and then acted like we should be fine with zero concern this bothers me. We have ordered sushi so many times from this place. I am completely disappointed and will have a huge issue if either of the 4 of us need more then toliet paper and time to get through this. Got home and there was no ginger and no wasabi no sauce at all period. I was not sure if it didn’t come with it but couldn’t imagine that’s true. So I called and.asked. They said ohh we must have forgot. She put me on hold and came back and said ohhh It’s not there I said no They said they were sorry. You wanna come back to get it , I live 15 minutes away so I guess that’s that of course. I’m not driving back to get wasabi and ginger. I was so excited to be so disappointed.
