UPDATE (now 3 stars): I had not been in three years, so when my 40th birthday came around, we decided to spend it at Top Golf. I wish I could say the experience was as good as a few years ago, but it wasn't.
For one, when we checked in online, it asked me if this was a special occasion. I said it was my 40th birthday, but when we got there no one knew of this. No big deal, I get that miscommunications happen, it just seemed weird to ask me and then not follow-up. When we checked in, my wife and son told them it was my birthday. They told me to let the server know. Later on, my son asked another employee what they did for birthdays, and the other employee said to let my server know about it (if you are keeping count - this is three times now that TG was told it was my birthday - and no one could tell the server for us, it was our responsibility). Honestly, I was fed up and didn't feel like the free ice cream or whatever anyway; I guess I just wanted it to feel special or something. We never wound up telling our server. Contrast this with the last time I came to TG for my birthday three years ago: I was greeted constantly by employees telling me happy birthday, we didn't have to ask for the dessert (which was donut holes last time - now it's just a scoop of ice cream - please don't spoil me!), and I really felt like the experience was special and worth the price.
Service-wise, our server was friendly but not often available when we needed him. We had to ask other employees for things like napkins/silverware and refills. Even then, one of our requested refills never came and we had to ask a THIRD time. THEN, even though I made sure with the server that we weren't going to get charged for said refill that came because we had ordered a second kids meal, we nevertheless had the charge on our check and had to ask for it to be removed. My wife and I are both former servers and are pretty forgiving of poor service, but I have to admit I left feeling disappointed in my experience overall, like we weren't a priority as a family of three when the other sections had groups of 5 or 6.
The golfing was great, though, so at least there was that. It cost 50 bucks for an hour, and we spent about another 100 in food/drinks.
In summary, I didn't have that great of an experience, and the fact that I chose it for my 40th birthday made it even more of a bummer. I'm probably not going to come back again - the current experience is not worth the price. 150 dollars is not an insignificant amount of money and next time I'll just ball out at my local bowling alley.
PREVIOUSLY (five stars): Wow, what a fantastic experience! I've been three times and I always leave wanting more. I'm not at all a golf player, but this place scratches an itch I never knew I had. Plus, the service is great. Really surprised to find myself leaving a five star review, but here we are! My six-year-old even likes it. ...
Read morePlace is run by toddlers with no semblance or care in the world for the people they are serving or placing in queue. Was super excited to hear about this one opening up after enjoying my times at the Top Golf in Charlotte. Unfortunately, this place has major management and staffing issues that need addressing. This Top Golf misplaced my credit card upon final payment for the bay, taking upwards of 30 minutes to retrieve my "mysteriously lost" card. Nothing was done about it or said by the staffing at the time. No apologies, no damage control, no response whatsoever. Things happen, and I understand that mistakes can be made. For them to be so carefree about not returning my card is simply unacceptable from a place that should be much more professional.
I decided to give them another chance some 5 months later hoping that they would have fixed their problems, but they are still present. They messaged us that our bay was ready after we had waited for over an hour, so we went to the front desk to see where we were being placed. Apparently that was a lie. They then proceeded to have us wait an extra hour while they were "busy" getting our promised bay ready. We asked multiple times what the hold up was and each time they replied that it would be ready in a couple of minutes before they turned to their other staff members and laughed and giggled about something that was much more important to them. We checked all the floors and saw multiple bays open, none of which were available. There were 3-4 staff members just dancing behind the front desk during all of this. Having fun is great and I'm not here to poo poo on other peoples enjoyment. But do it on your time after you've done your job. This is absolutely insane from a place as established as Top Golf.
This place is extremely unprofessional and it's very clear that it's being handled by people that don't care about the establishment and/or the people attending it. While it's understandable that there be wait times for this place during busy hours, their handling of the queue times and everything else interpersonal is ridiculous to say the least. The auto-response messages from the "owner" on here should make it obvious enough. They don't care and it's a shame. Compared to the one in Charlotte, this place...
Read moreSomething that I have never done is playing golf. The reason for this is because I created this depiction in my head of what playing the sport would be like: boring and uninviting. As I grew older, I would always pass by a lot of golf courses that looked amusing. For example, whenever I go on vacation to Maryland, there would be many mini-golf courses that seemed exciting. They would also be in different themes too such as a treasure island. When I moved here to Greenville, I passed by Top golf which captured my eye. The building was huge, and I saw a lot of TVs and colorful lights. I told myself I wanted to try it one day because it looked very fun. I had checked the place out online and read plenty of reviews. Many people said they had a great time, therefore, I finally decided to try it out! When I first arrived at Top golf, I felt very energetic. I say this because they were playing loud catchy music, there was a bunch of people enjoying themselves, and they served delicious food and drinks. Top golf is a big place because they have three different floors. I had gone with a friend of mine that had already been there before, so she was able to teach me how to play golf. We had picked the third floor because the view was beautiful from up top. First, I had to choose the best golf putter that I was most comfortable using. Next, I had to click a button on the ground that slowly shoots out a golf ball. I had placed the golf ball right on top of the tee, so I can hit it easily. Then, I had to fix my posture because it helped me maintain a good balance. I finally swung the putter which had hit the golf ball flying a few feet in the air. I thought it was extremely fun because it makes me excited to see how far the ball goes. It was also dark outside, so they had bright colorful lights surrounding the building. I loved the music they were playing too, and I enjoyed watching other people having a good time. My friend and I had ordered Asian sesame wings that were extremely tasty. They also had many other foods on the menu and different alcoholic beverages to choose from. The workers were also very nice to us because they were very helpful and fun to talk to. I loved the atmosphere there at Top golf, and I had a blast playing golf for...
