Pita BBQ in Elgin, Illinois, is a true gem that brings authentic Mediterranean flavors to the local community. As the second location of this mom-and-pop halal fast food spot, it continues the tradition of offering high-quality, flavorful dishes that make you feel like you’re dining in the heart of the Mediterranean. The menu is packed with traditional favorites, from tender, juicy kebabs to perfectly spiced shawarma, fresh salads, and deliciously seasoned rice. Each dish is crafted with care, ensuring that the flavors are rich and satisfying. The restaurant’s style is simple and unpretentious, focusing on cleanliness and creating a welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can immediately feel at ease, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a relaxed meal. The environment is warm and inviting, making it easy to see why Pita BBQ has quickly become a local favorite. What really sets Pita BBQ apart is the people. The employees are incredibly friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. During my visit, I had the chance to chat and laugh with the staff, which added a personal touch that you don’t often find in many restaurants. The owner, Shahzad, was also present, and he was as laid-back and approachable as you could hope for. His passion for the food and commitment to quality shine through in every aspect of the restaurant. Overall, Pita BBQ offers more than just great food—it provides a dining experience that feels personal and connected. It’s a place where you’re not just another customer, but a valued guest. If you’re in Elgin and craving authentic Mediterranean cuisine with a welcoming vibe, Pita BBQ is the spot to be.

I walked into a nearly empty, dark, and dingy Pita Bbq and ordered 1 falafel wrap without tomatoes and onions and 1 falafel wrap without onions. While waiting, I used the bathroom which was gross and had a wet floor, no soap, no way to dry your hands. As I was waiting, I was hoping the workers didn't use that bathroom and then go out and make food because no soap=no clean hands. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt and proceeded to take my order home. After unwrapping it, we found both wraps had mounds of tomatoes and onions. As an added bonus, mine had a couple hairs imbedded in the falafel. I wouldn't even touch my falafel to eat but my mom braved it and had a few bites of hers. She said hers was VERY spicy. Overall, very disappointed and grossed out. Update: called pita Bbq and they were willing to give me my money back via email. Haven't gotten anything from them yet.

Stopped in recently for lunch. We chose the veggie plate for $12 each. Added fountain drinks and our lunch bill was $32. Only three falafel balls, but they are large and freshly made. Rice was ok; so was the hummus. Pita was warm and tasty. But the onions, pickles, tomatoes, and cucumber are just in one little section; tomatoes weren't ripe at all. Lots of big fans circulating air, even in March. Two lights over tables were broken, one covered in blue tape. Makes me nervous about other quality issues. We miss having choices for the "sides" on these plates, as in prior years. But the bigger concern is everything served on stuff that isn't reusable or recyclable. Eating "in," but food was in styrofoam containers and utensils are plastic.

Update...we haven't been here in a year or so and we're disappointed a bit in the quality. Falafel we're oily, portions far smaller, the combo did not have what the menu said. They told us they have to get around to changing the menu sign. I doubt we"ll make the long trip again but for locals it's worth stopping in.

I wish I could give TEN stars!! We travel almost 18 miles to visit this place, and we do it close to once a week. Having lived in Greece for some time, I developed a real passion for dolmades, gyros, tzatziki, marinated vegetables and the like. Disappointed that there are no such cuisines near here, we discovered Middle Eastern food and holy cow do these folks know how to cook! We have tried many of the dishes, but mostly order the vegetarian platter, since it has our favorites. Best hummus I ever ate. I couldn't get my husband to eat babaganouj until he tried it here, now it's a favorite. It's just done right! The dolam, one of my all time favorite foods are perfect. The salads completely fresh and very flavorful. The schawarmas are incredibly flavorful. The servings are very generous. And let me tell you, the people here are awesomely hard-working, eager to satisfy customers, and really, really lovely people. If I lived closer, I would quit cooking and just eat there daily. Try this place. You cannot go wrong if you enjoy healthy eating, delicious cooking, and a pleasant environment. Keep it up, Pita Barbeque! And please open a store in McHenry...

One of my very favorite places to eat! My favorite is the chicken shawarma and my husband's is the chili chicken (it's spicy). Make sure you get garlic sauce. It comes on the side and is sooooo yummy! The garlic fries are awesome as well; especially if you dip them in the garlic sauce. Reasonably priced and better food than any expensive, fancy, sit down dining Mediterranean place I've ever been to. Also, the people are ridiculously friendly ever single time I go there.

*UPDATE: My friends and I drive from Geneva just to go here. Everytime we have parties, we do catering from here. The menu changed. The portions are smaller. The salad has changed and the lettuce added to it is soggy. The garlic fries, our favorite thing on the menu, are gone. We are all bummed. We haven't did the catering since the changes so I can't speak for that, but it's lost it's appeal to us. While I will still go there if I'm in the area, the drive itself is no longer worth it. At least they kept the...
