Michaels — Local services in South Elgin

Very awful experience there today. Was never greeted. That's fine. I was there a while and never got help. At checkout the lady at counter was busy so I chose self checkout. I had an item I didn't want. Well I clicked on help and guess what she ignored me and went to help people next to me who didn't even press the help button. Name of cashier was bonnie or something like that. Why have the stupid help option if people at counter are not even going to come help?? Outrageous. I've had a bad experience there 3x so far. I'm kinda done shopping here. In January we came in and 2 employees let us know they were closing in 20 minutes, yeah we know how to Google store hours. It was rude af. They were teens but still. Don't go to work if you don't want to actually work.

Editing to add Yep they're racist at this store. They greet you when you walk in, if you're white or are accompanied by a white person. That's nice to know. I will be returning most of the items I bought there last week. Not supporting a store that doesn't support me or the...

I’ve always enjoyed shopping at Michaels, but my recent experience with Ronnie at checkout was incredibly disappointing. When I approached for help at the self checkout, she completely ignored me. There were no other cashiers available, so I pressed the help button on the register. Even then, she did nothing. Thankfully, a kind young woman eventually ran over to assist me. What shocked me most was that, as I was leaving, I overheard Ronnie complaining to this same helpful employee about me “annoying” her. That is not the kind of service I expect from Michaels. I will be returning my items and reconsidering where I shop. After posting this, I noticed that many other reviews mention similar negative experiences with Ronnie—some even alleging racist behavior. One of my three favorite stores for scrapbook and other craft supplies. Prices are high, but they offer plenty of coupons and other discounts if I shop with a plan.

Individual 12x12 sheets for scrapbooking are often on sale. That's when I stock up.

Also, they often have big markdowns on seasonal decorative items. I could easily find small wreaths and other door decor for my dad's apartment for under $10.

My first choice when shopping for photo frames, too. They have a nice selection of neutral frame colors and specialty frames. Very often a good discount if you buy more than one of same brand.

Cashiers are the best part of this store. Efficient, friendly, and helpful. I've never encountered anyone in a bad mood at the check out! Nice way to wrap up my shopping...
