Opened just two weeks ago in South Fayette, we noticed it when we saw the sign being put up on top of the building. Checked out the menu online and it looked like an all-American menu featuring steaks, chicken, and seafood with some dinner salads thrown in as well. Prices seemed a bit on the high end, but not too terribly high. At the end of the day, we decided to go and try it out with another couple.
Since they are a chain, they offer a club membership. I signed up and received a $10 off coupon just for signing up. That came in handy, of course. Also, on your birthday, they offer you a special dessert plate. The other couple had a birthday that same week and they honored that as well. One of the pictures show what the staff did which was very nice!
Our overall impressions were very positive. The food was good, the service was beyond excellent (shout out to Marisa for super excellent service!) and the quantity of food provided justified the prices. We ended up spending around $40 per person but that included drinks and salads for some of us. Also, we had leftovers, so this really translates into at least seven meals! (one of us liked their meal so much that they ate the whole thing!).
We did not order any appetizers as we saw how large their dishes were when we sat down. On the other hand, they did look good. A table next to ours had the Bacon Deviled eggs and they looked stunning. The Philadelphia Cheesesteak Egg Rolls also looked good. But as I said, it was a good thing we did not get any appetizers – maybe next time.
What we did get was the Red Snapper – which was served on top of an ancient grain and corn medley with Asparagus and shrimp in an interesting sauce; The Cilantro Chicken – which came topped with two onion rings, a nice sauce, one sprig of Cilantro, and a baked potato; and one of their steaks with their Potatoes Au Gratin. Every one of the main dishes was very flavorful and tasty. Two of our party also ordered side salads which were well put together and also very tasty. The restaurant serves freshly baked mini-loaves of bread and butter after you order and that was good as well.
As I mentioned above the staff was exceptional. Not only were the hostesses polite and accommodating, but our waitress went well above and beyond. At one point, she was describing one of the dishes, and we pointed out to her that her description differed from the menu. She told us she was served the dish the way she described it, and since it sounded good, we told her to go ahead. Of course, when it arrived, it was presented like the menu said – when she came over the check on us, we showed her this – in a joking manner – she was very apologetic and immediately went over and provided the missing portions to us at no charge since it was her description that was promised to us, even though we told her it was not really necessary. This was just one example of how well she took care of us throughout the meal. On our way out, the manager (who was always circulating through the dining room, cleaning table, delivering dishes, and doing all kinds of chores) jumped ahead of us to hold the doors open.
Was anything wrong? Well, yes, a couple of things. The acoustics are horrible! This chain has the open ceiling with no sound deadening materials in it so when the dining room was full, we had to practically yelling at each other to be heard. I did not realize that there was music playing in the background until I went to the restroom and entered the separate corridor to it! Secondly, we ordered some red wines and they came cold. Not just below room temperature, but really cold. For a white wine that would have been Ok, but not for red wines.

Read moreWe went to Firebirds with reservations on a Monday night. It was not busy at all. We were seated promptly. Our server Daniel was friendly and prompt to approach our table. We ordered bar drinks for three out of the four in our party. My fiancé got iced tea. Daniel back in 5 minutes and asked us what we would like to order. I informed him we didn’t get our drinks yet. He went and checked on the drinks and told us the bartender was slacking, she was on the phone (taking an order as he winked at us). He delivered the drinks took our order and we didn’t see him again. I ordered another drink through a food runner.Daniel bought the drinks, that was it. Finally two managers bought our food out. My son and I both ordered filet and lobster. My fiancé ordered the ribeye and my son’s girlfriend ordered a pasta dish. They were all cold. My lobster shell disintegrated but it was cooked well but cold as was my steak. My son’s lobster was uncooked and tough. Both had zero flavor. The butter it came with was like dipping oil for bread (which we never received)It did not compliment the lobster at all. I ordered a mushroom blue cheese add on for my steak. It was a total joke as was the rosemary thyme butter that my fiancé ordered with his. Both came out cold, coagulated, and so small. Finally Daniel stopped at the table to see how everything was. Some how he knew we didn’t get our accompaniments, so he said he would comp us a dessert. The price was high for the steak that as it got colder it got so tough you couldn’t eat it. Honestly for the amount we spent it was extremely ridiculous. Daniel was by far the worst server I have ever had. He was nice and friendly, but by far the worst service I can remember ever getting let alone from an almost empty restaurant. We went to Outback tonight for filet and lobster. It was close to half the price and it was phenomenal. The only thing I would consider going back for would be the pineapple martini drink special. By the way, when you leave there plan on smelling like a camp fire. I would t bother showering before you visit. The smell of smoke is strong. I like the smell of a campfire but couldn’t go to bed smelling like it. It’s amazing that the Firebirds in Cranberry gets such great reviews. I don’t see this place making it, especially when there is a Texas Roadhouse close by that is always on point. The two stars I gave is only for the drink. We...
Read moreExcellent 5 star experience from this location for a mid tier steakhouse offering quality eats with a modern flair.
The deviled eggs were excellent. The hint of spice from the horseradish in the egg mix was a pleasant surprise as my pallet tends to love spice. The fresh sliced jalepeno also added to the love here. As for the candied bacon, Eeyore was all for the touch of sweet with the heat, but I personally would prefer thick smoked bacon for a little smoke flavor with the heat, versus the sweet. Still a terrific dish I would order again. I hear the slow smoked wings are amazing, so will have to give those a try in the future.
The dinner salad was fresh and the dressing plentiful, yet the dressing does not overpower the freshess if the lettuce. Nicely done.
The slaw, also excellent. It's not some sloppy moist mayo based mess. The slaw here is fresh and crisp with the cilantro lime dressing used to make it giving it a wonderful flavor.
And then the Ribeye. This is a beautiful cut of meat. The steak itself coming from the grill has the perfect char and flavor locked in. No need for any toppers on this steak, although the toppers are terrific if you want to add a unique steak experience. I went Cajun with mine for my touch of unique. This steak is the definition of what a mid level ribeye should be at this price point. Cooked to the perfect medium-rare too. Nicely done.
Rounding things out. The mushrooms are a winner for any mushroom fan. Done just as whole mushrooms should be done. My guest had the filet with the blue cheese mushroom topper, she truly enjoyed her dish as well. And her baked potato, Eeyore could not stop starring at it as it was a loaded beauty.
Then for dessert. We were surprised with a sampling of the creme brulee. Beautiful presentation with the strawberry rose putting a smile on everyone's face and causing Eeyore's ears to stand up in joy.
The vibe is clean, modern, and pleasant. Perfect place for a romantic date, a business dinner, or just a casual night out. The service great and this location seems well run, kudos to the management here. After a prior experience at another location that was sub-par many years ago, this experience has put Firebirds back on the map for me and the ol' donkey. ...
