Sierra Mexican Cafe — Restaurant in South Gate

This place is such a gem. We had a hot vanilla latte and a mazapán latte, which both hit the spot for this cold weather. Both lattes were perfect (not too sweet and filled to the top!). I personally thought the prices were fair because you don't really get this kind of quality at big chains like Starbucks, Dunkin, etc.

We also had the chicken chipotle sandwich and the avocado toast. Both were delicious and just what we were craving. I've had the mole burrito from here before and let me tell you, it did not disappoint, I actually thought the serving size was very fair for the burrito and sandwich and I think that their pricing is actually comparable to neighboring businesses. In fact, when it comes to the quality, you actually get a better deal bc Starbucks just throws their "cafe food" into an oven and charge you the same if not more.

The space itself is just as great—it’s cozy and welcoming, the kind of place where you could sit and work, brainstorm ideas, or just catch up with someone without feeling rushed. It's so hard to come by places where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and have a bite in peace and this place is just that. My only regret was not taking photos! The seating looks like it was expanded to accommodate more people inside which I think was a great decision.

Sierra is a woman-owned, Latina-owned business, which makes it even more special and you don't get watered down service like you do at big chain coffee shops/cafes. Businesses like this are so important in our community, and I really hope more people come out to...

I’ve stopped by Sierra Caffe a couple of times during work hours since I’m often in the area. I’ve tried a few of their cold coffee drinks—decent, but nothing memorable.

However, my most recent visit was disappointing. I stood at the counter ready to order, with staff—including the owner—just a foot away preparing drinks. Not one person acknowledged me. No greeting, no eye contact, not even a quick “We’ll be right with you.” I waited for about three minutes, clearly visible, and still nothing.

As someone on the go for work, I don’t have time to stand around hoping to be noticed. I ended up walking out and heading to Starbucks down the street, where I was greeted the moment I walked in and enjoyed a warm pumpkin spice latte.

I’m giving 3 stars service only because one young staff member seemed friendly, though perhaps too shy to speak up. Customer service matters—and unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. I ordered a Chipotle Sandwich with NO ONIONS, this is my FIRST TIME TRYING THIS PLACE the food looked delicious and I was excited I also ordered a mocha frappe. The Mocha Frappe was amazing, downed it in 10 minutes. On the other hand, the chipotle sandwich was 5/10 at MOST. I had no problem eating it at first it was delicious and i enjoyed it until i tasted onion i remember it said on the device it said with NO onion. I took it out and kept eating till i bit into what I believe is a chicken bone. This place is great but please, pay attention to the order!! The people were great, super friendly an all. The food came out fast, but maybe take more time to ensure the order is correct.
