Let’s cut to the chase: the House Chicken/Lamb combo over rice was very good. The portion size was enormous for 12.99 (which with tax only came out to a little over $13 somehow?) and I had enough left over for another full meal. The proteins were moist, nothing was dry or overcooked, and everything was well seasoned. Those spices man! One whiff and bite and it instantly reminded me of the halal carts in New York i ate at every day during college. The basmati rice is tasty too, al dente and not overcooked and it had a particular flavor to it that I can’t identify. i’m not sure what they did to it, I wish I could figure it out.
But let’s talk about the star of any self respecting halal chicken and rice dish: the white sauce. I’m happy to report that omgyro (i hate that name and i refuse to use it im sorry lol) had a white sauce every bit as creamy, rich, zesty, garlicky and citrusy as you’d expect. Tastes just like what I used to get from my favorite carts outside Fordham.
Like with the old halal carts, the tomatos and lettuce is really kind of a sad afterthought. I wish they’d think of a way to do something more interesting with those than just an undressed, raw green, onion and tomato salad. Maybe add cucumber to it and toss it in a sumac lemon vinaigrette with some olive oil and add a small portion of that to your plate for $1 instead of free. But that’s a minor complaint.
Overall I will absolutely be going back again. I am very interested in the baklava they offer, i’m wondering if it’s made at a bakery or in house. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size you get. I also let my parents get a bite of mine and they said they are going to eat there soon too. l
Overall very tasty and reasonably priced....
Read moreI went for the falafel platter. Falafels are one of my favorite things to eat. I've eaten falafels from many, many, many places in the tri-state area and abroad. Naturally, I have become a bit of a falafel connoisseur. That being said, the falafel was just meh as well as the rice. The texture of the falafel was fine but it was seriously lacking in flavor. Not salt but that flavor you get when everything is well seasoned with loads of parsley and spices. I also got an order of fries and onion rings. The onion rings were very good, super crispy and well seasoned. The fries were just okay mainly because I prefer plain potato fries over seasoned fries. I will say that the food was very reasonably priced and my online order was ready when I arrived to pick it up....but I went there specifically for the falafel and they weren't anything to write home about. Also it would have been nice if they served tahini instead of the white sauce which they actually forgot to put in the bag. I got some orange looking sauce instead which was good with the onion rings. I'd never put in a...
