Disclaimer to my review: my sandwich was very good.

This place is wildly, unethically, over priced. I normally am okay spending money on food as I understand the cost of goods, restaurant price model and lack of profit in the restaurant world. However, this is a deli. I own and operate 3 quick service restaurants that sell wild sushi grade number 2 blue fin tuna that I don’t charge this much for.

I also understand the way things are in current America and the stresses we are under with how expensive things are with inflation, YET I can not understand the price for 1 “half” sandwich that does not contain pricey ingredients or even fresh vegetables and fruit. Not homemade bread, cheese, cabbage, canned tuna fish…

Story from today: This was also my first time here anyways so I handed the cashier a credit card however their credit card machine wasn’t working. I was forced to use the atm which was a $2.75 charge. So right there I was down that amount of money. I handed the cashier my $20 thinking that was enough for my Reuben “half” with no meat just tuna salad sandwich (rye bread, coleslaw, Swiss and russian dressing), chips and an ice tea. She then says “oh the chips & drink are on me for the trouble.” Wow thank you! That was very kind. She then hands me back a few cents from my $20 and I am confused thinking she took back her initial statement because I said oh no problem at all you don’t have to do that…I then went on to ask “wait how much was the sandwich” she said $19xyz with tax. With drink and chips this would have been $30+ easily…..

Needless to say I am completely and utterly perplexed that a tuna sandwich could ever possibly cost this much money, not even in NYC, not anywhere & definitely not South Orange, NJ. I was beyond and I even said are you sure multiple times, and then said that was the most expensive sandwich I have...

You can tell from my profile that I do not write reviews, but I feel like I had such high expectations and was totally let down. I heard from many people that their sloppy joes were better than Millburn Deli and the best around. I walked in and was not greeted by anyone and just walked up to order. The woman behind the counter was not mean, or anything like that, but she certainly was not friendly. What shocked me the most were the prices that exceed those of Manhattan, Millburn Deli, and anywhere around. 1/2 a turkey/roastbeef sloppy joe is about $19. I truly thought I misread it. That sloppy joe is 4 small squares, and not what I would really consider a full meal. I ordered it because I figured I would try to support the local business but when I then watched them carefully weigh out the turkey, cheese, and roast beef, to make sure not to over serve it, I was immediately turned off. Then the employee put on an incredible amount of coleslaw and russian and I went to check out. A drink and a sloppy Joe was almost $25, this is SO not Manhattan or Miami, which would be cheaper in both those places.

The sandwich itself was okay but 1000% not worth the price. I would say that I certainly prefer other local Delis and will not be returning. I really try to support small business, and I understand inflation and increased cost of food, but there is increases in prices and then there is extortion and I left a store feeling that I had been completely been ripped off and it is not a...

This place should be ashamed of the platters it delivered to my home! I ordered $850 Shiva package and most of what I received was shamefully paltry. Take a look at the picture of fruit salad platter they sent me for $65, I could have purchased this at any supermarket for $10.00. This was not a Deli fruit platter by any means. The deli meat platter, for $150, arrived on an 8" plastic plate, had one layer of brown old looking corned beef, super fatty, low quality pastrami, and dry roast beef. The Deli salad platter had only 1 scoop of each salad, egg, chicken and tuna, that were flattened to about 1/2" thick to make them appear larger than they were. There had to be less than 1/2 pound of each salad for $150. The dessert platter consisted of store bought chocolate chip cookies and brownies for $100. They forgot to deliver rye bread, rolls and condiments. The potatoe and cole slaw salad container were small and half full. The delivery was supposed to be between 1 and 3. Instead, food was delivered at 4:45! Shameful to have this occur after burying a loved one! When I called to let them know what I received was no where near acceptable, I was told by a rude woman that she was "just the cashier and that no one was there that could help. Call back tomorrow." Totally unacceptable! I wound up ordering platters from Warren Deli that were amazing! I don't know how this place has been in business for so long! Absolutely despicable to take advantage of people...

This will be my last time EVER coming here. I’ve been here twice before. Each time I ordered the same thing, the same way. I get a turkey sandwich with mayo, lettuce, cucumber, onion, oil/vinegar & pepper (the spice) with a bag of sea salt kettle chips. On 3/29, I was charged $10. Today, I was charged, $20.11. I was extremely confused by the price, so I asked her why the sandwich was so expensive. She asked me what kind of turkey I got. I’d never been asked that before. I told her I’d just asked for a turkey sandwich. Then, she asked the woman behind the counter what turkey she gave me. Apparently, the woman behind the counter took it upon herself to give me the MOST EXPENSIVE TURKEY on the menu board, without asking. Now I’ve worked in food service before. Never have I EVER just GIVEN a customer the most expensive option without asking first. That’s absolutely insane. So let this be your warning. Unless you want to pay $20 for a short sub, specify literally any turkey that is NOT store made. It will save your wallet and your taste buds. Canned tuna has more flavor than what I got today… even with the chips.

I love a good Jewish sloppy joe and was told I had to try this place since they are the “original” sloppy. I didn’t see my favorite kind- a pastrami and turkey sloppy- on the menu so I had to special order it at the counter. I also didn’t realize they add cheese to it (cue my shocked face) and my husband pointed it out as they were making it and I had to ask them to remove it. It’s not a Reuben it’s a sloppy! The sandwich overall was decent but steep at $19 for not that much meat. They are meticulous at constructing the sandwich and the Cole slaw and Russian dressing were perfect and I like that there was 2 pickles on the side per person. But I wouldn’t come back here for that. The pastrami was so skimpy compared to the turkey and just wasn’t as good as Deli king by a mile. My husband got a pineapple habanero chicken sandwich that he loved. If you’re coming here for a sloppy Joe, skip it and just go to deli king. You’ll thank me later.
