We're from NY and were so happy to find out that YUPP shipped out of state. Our order was a little over $100. Ordered on 1/6, label for shipping was created on 1/9 and according to the emails, it was on its way to me... but it was for the wrong address. I reached out to inform them that they put the wrong address and they finally corrected it on 1/12. Tracking never updated and I thought, if the order was ready, why is it taking so long to ship? I reached out on 1/14 and he said he was waiting on the coco bread but my order was being packed up-ready to ship that day. Well, it never shipped. So I reached out again and he said he missed the USPS cutoff and offered 10% discount on a future order. It finally shipped on 1/17 and I received my order on 1/21. At this point, I'm questioning whether this is safe to eat because according to him, this order was ready since January 9. There were no ice packs or dry ice in the box upon arrival. I emailed again asking about this and also to let him know there were a few patties missing. He apologized and said he hired someone new and she made the mistake but that he's going to send the missing items. Let me just say, I'm in Texas and he shipped everything like that. He said "they should absolutely be safe to eat. I think they are fine to eat." We tried 2 of them but they were dry. The meat inside was actually crumbling and it just didn't feel right. I have emailed him about 4 to 5 times following up on the missing items and I'm convinced I've been ghosted. I received 2 emails between him and another company for decals. Somehow he didn't realize he added me to his response and I just thought... How unprofessional. I even responded to those emails.... But he's ignoring my emails and never shipped anything out. I've been nothing but kind and understanding during this while ordeal. I also want to add that my husband ordered from YUPP before and everything was great. The coco bread was big and they were fresh and delicious. The coco bread we got this time was small and didn't look or taste like the first ones. They told me they were baking the coco bread fresh, then in another email, he said "the coco bread arrived yesterday." Love supporting small businesses, especially from NY, but this was a negative experience and I won't be...
Read moreFor those of you who are planning to purchase a patty from Y.U.P.P let me inform you of a few things. Nothing is fresh! The patties are made with a third party. The patties are pre-made , branded , and then brought to this location to be sold. There’s no knowledge of where these come from or how they’ve been handled before entering the store. The patties are not only pre cooked but also re-heated in an air fryer that doesn’t have the full capacity of an actual oven. I have also found mold on one of the most popular patties. The jerk chicken on the menu is also precooked as well. It is stored in thin plastic trash bags and put away. The chicken is placed in a steamer and sold. If the chicken is bloody or has a bone with blood in it , it is placed in the mini oven. If there are patties that didn’t sell for the day , they will be placed in a refrigerator, re-heated and sold the next day. Every other Friday , oxtails , rice/peas, and cabbage are sold. The food is also brought in from a third party and whatever doesn’t sell that Friday will be sold the Friday after that. I have also found mold in the oxtails that was sitting in the refrigerator for over two weeks. The store is very unsanitary. If patties are misplaced or mixed up , the owner will stick his face and nose inside the patties to see what it is. With visible nose hairs and boogers! The juices are not fresh nor the slushees. They are also premade and brought to the store. The owner also walks around the store with a blunt in the back of his ear. He fails to greet his customers and doesn’t take out the trash. He doesn’t like to keep the trash can lids on top of the can. He doesn’t want his employees using his dish detergent because we will waste it so he says. I’ve seen how this store is ran first hand. I’ve witnessed him trying to sell a patty for over the course of four days. All patties go from the trunk of his vehicle to a refrigerator underneath the cash register , to a freezer , and then to a air fryer. They are then displayed in the warmers for his employees to sell. He will keep the patty until...
Read moreI've frequented YUPP several times. What I love about them is that they have an assortment of different patty flavors that go beyond the typical beef filling. They offer beef, shrimp, veggie, vegan curry, goat curry, oxtail, and more fillings. Today I got the goat curry because I never tried it before. And its this experience that led me to give 3 stars. It was $7.50, which I am not mad about because goat is a more expensive protein. The filling was seasoning delicious. However, everything else was a let down. The patty crust was hard like something that stayed in the oven 5 minutes too long. It didn't exhibit the flaky crust that I've associated Jamaican patties with. The filling was dry, once again indicative of something overcooked. And there was only a small amount of filling in the patty. My mouth made too much contact with the hard crust. This is unusual from YUPP. The other patties I've tried had an ample filling to crust ratio.
I also got the bread pudding. 10/10. Delicious. I hope the owners tweat the curry goat patty recipe because it has a lot of potential. I also realize that mistakes happen and perhaps I just got the curry goat pattie...
