TLDR: Service was fast and great. Food was trash, alcoholic drinks were virgin. Overpriced. Will not be coming back Longer review: Came here after finding out the local gym was closed. Decided to come here as the reviews were decent. Looking over the photos, it seemed like this place had good food. Didn't look quite authentic but this is south orange. Seated quick and given our drinks quick as well. Was kind of surprised as the drinks tasted as if hey had no alcohol. I guess I should have figured it out here. What Mexican restaurant makes such weak drinks? Chips and salsa served first. Chips were good, crisp. The salsa was tomato water and onions. No flavor, no spice. Entrees came quick which was great, however food was bland and had no spice. Their spiciest sauce was some sort of sweet "chipotle" sauce. It was more like mole. After asking multiple times the waiter informed me that they in fact have no other spicy sauces. For those that will inquire, Tapatio is great but not to bring the heat. I ended up not using any of it as this "chipotle" sauce was too sweet and quite disgusting. This place is overpriced. 2 entrees and 2 drinks for $50. Most expensive Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Paid quick and left. Will not be...

I have been wanting to go here for quite a while, and I'm glad that we finally went. There are more table settings than i thought the place had so don't worry about not being able to get a seat. Service was fast, they have someone for every aspect of service, from the Host, to waiter, food runner and, I believe back waiter. Everything was prompt and served hot (or cold in the case of our beverages). Very friendly staff.

The food was pretty good, the only dish I was slightly disappointed by were the Nachos, and not because of the taste. While the description does say that it is a 'pizza style' nachos, and it tasted great, there wasn't much to it. Essentially it was 1 large crispy tortilla with your choice of meat and melted cheese, refried beans, served with shredded lettuce and jalapenos on the side. It was fine for one person, two if you holdback from eating it.

As for the main entrees they tasted great and this was one of the few places that i actually eat the refried beans that were served with my dish, which is saying a lot about the care they take when making it.

Overall, we'll certainly consider coming back, just not...

Ate from, El Toro Loco, a couple days ago. I ordered the Burrito, Chimichanga, & Enchilada combo. With Margaritas and Chorizo Empanadas. The Combo was very exceptional. Did not expect it to come with Rice and Refried Beans. The Combo Meal was exceptional, only complaint would be the portion size. Got two Chicken and one Pork. Really could not tell the difference between the three. They were all very good, regardless. Would rate the Combo as a whole a 6/10. The Margaritas were a solid 8/10. I am going to pretend that I did not eat the Chorizo Empanadas. They were not good in any way, shape, or form. Would rate them a solid 1/10. It would be a 0/10, if the dough was not made fresh. Barely tasted the Chorizo, extremely salty, and there was A LOT more dough than meat. The Chorizo Empanadas greatly impacts my total score! Their Salsa & Chips were very good as well. Loved their homemade Salsa. All in all, would ABSOLUTELY recommend, El Toro Loco, to anyone looking for some great tasting Mexican Food, great drinks, and amazing customer service in the South Orange area. I spent Cinco de Mayo (this past Sunday) at Toro Loco celebrating our daughter’s birthday and even though the restaurant was at full capacity, the experience continues to be positive. I’ve been a customer of this family owned / managed restaurant for approximately 35 years. Sure, there are times when things might not go as well as expected but over my 35 years of coming here, the consistency of a good to great experience far outweighs those times when there might be challenges for the owners. If your looking for a family owned Mexican Restaurant, with a true focused on south of the border culinary experience, plus a group of employees that will and do go the distance to make you feel at home, this is the place. As for Oscar, I was there when he started at 14 years old. Yes, he’s the best and part of the family management that looks to ensure a quality experience both with the food, beverages, services and ambiance. So, if it’s your first time there or your expectations don’t meet the days mark, ask for Oscar as I am more then sure the response will be professional as well as cordial.

This authentic Mexican restaurant is located in small downtown South Orange, NJ. It offers a large variety of Mexican food at reasonable prices. The establishment has no parking but there is a municipal parking lot behind the restaurant. Once you walk inside, you will notice the place is located in an old mixed used building with apartments above. The place is very old and outdated, needs fresh paint and extreme wall washing. My concern would be that of lead paint so I try to stay away from the dirty walls. The food comes out fairly quickly and fresh. Not a fan that they do not use white meat/chicken breast but rather will give you the dark meat which is also cheaper for them. They charge a lot for sodas, the cups are small and the restaurant does not provide free refills. Is not a bad place but definitely not the best. The staff, however, is attentive and always coming to your needs. I had multiple meals there regardless of the downfalls.
