Barry's Beach Bar — Restaurant in South Padre Island

Love the location. They had live music, which was good. The happy hour (11 am-4pm) Pina Colada didnt have enough coconut flavor and I’m not sure there was much alcohol in it. I liked the price, $5, but was not impressed with the drink. Ordered the mushroom/Swiss burger. The burger needed more seasoning. Bland. Fries were ok. Had ordered a side of onion rings but apparently they hadn’t ordered them for me. Had to ask for them. My friend ordered fish/shrimp combo but it only came out with fish. They took her whole box of food back to make the shrimp, so she sat while we ate. Did enjoy the onion rings with dipping sauce. My friends and I did not care for the food to come in a box. Would be great if taking the food back to the beach, but not when you are sitting at a table. The sides are too high on them. I would suggest baskets instead. All in all, kind of disappointed with Barry’s...

The tacos were over-priced...and nothing to really write home about. First of all...an authentic fish taco is made with CORN tortillas..not flour. Fish tacos should also have fresh slaw. The stand wasn't true to its operational hours. Everywhere it states it's open until 9pm and we got there at 7:30pm...they took our order and then closed up shop. They don't even have any salsas for the tacos...its all your typical bottled up stuff...like Texas Pete..Valentina..ect & The beer was hot. Another HUGE downer was that you had to park at Clayton's to get to taco stand...because you need a parking permit to park at the Hilton in order to get to this food truck. Even though Google maps takes you to Hilton in order to get to Barry's. Only positive out if this is that you get to eat half-a$$ over priced tacos...

Daytime review: Went on a Saturday afternoon. They were definitely short staffed because they only had 1-2 people at the bar taking orders for both food and drinks. Wait time for food was about an hour, which I won’t complain about because although they were short staffed, they hustled. BUT everybody’s order was either wrong or missing items. There were a lot of other people with similar situations standing around trying to get their orders corrected too. No receipts were printed so it was difficult to show what you ordered but at least they made it right and got us our food. Food is definitely overpriced for what you get. Don’t expect anything spectacular. Drinks are ok. The best thing about this place is its location and atmosphere, but that’s pretty much the only thing...
