El Refin Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in South Plainfield

I placed an order to be delivered to my house between 4:45-4:55pm.

While showering at work, I received a missed call with no voicemail. A voicemail would have been nice. I called the number back and a girl from the restaurant picked up saying that my my Cabeza Tacos are out of stock and that they were going to replace them with Beef Tacos with an extra taco thrown in. They were also out of beef empanadas so they replaced them with chicken. That was perfectly fine with me.

My order was delivered to my house at 3:50pm. That was one hour early. My order was cold and soggy by the time I got home at 4:40pm

I called the restaurant and let them know that they messed up the time. They said sorry and that was it. In my opinion, that was pretty lousy customer service.

So after that phone call, I opened my bag of cold and soggy food....and well the restaurant never included my guacamole and my tamale. That’s $7 worth of missing food.

Long story short, I normally go to that lovely colorful Mexican Restaurant on the other side of town. However, for Cinco de Mayo 2020, I decided to go against the norm and try a place I have never been to before. Well that was a terrible decision. I didn’t receive a majority of what I ordered and I ended up consuming cold and soggy food that sat in a container for over an hour. The customer service was below what I expected. I wish I could say something good, but I can’t think of anything positive at this time. Hopefully, others who ordered from here today had much better...

I have ordered from here several times before because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't being picky. Coming from someone who is Hispanic and who cooks, firstly, their empanadas are extremely bland. For the price they should have a little more meat or that same amount of meat with cheese also-second, I order online purposely because of how specific my order is, which I know can be a bit aggravating but I'm paying. THEY NEVER FOLLOW MY ORDER. It's like they don't even read it which is frustrating cause its written on the receipt they show me. AND WHOS TO SAY I COULD BE ALLERGIC? Then when I point it out to them, they seem to get annoyed. I ask for the avocado on the side and extra onions. Its supposed to come with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese, avocado and jalapenos. This time, I got NO AVACADO, ONIONS, TOMATOS or JALAPENOS-very minimal cheese and a heaping amount of lettuce. When I mentioned it, she wasn't rude, but she did walk away before I could finish speaking. When she mentioned it to whomever was in the kitchen, I heard them complaining about it. They then gave me a small container of avocado, which is less than the amount they put on the sandwich to begin with. Last time, I stood there until I got everything but I didn't have as much time today. When its made right, its really a DELICIOUS sandwich, and a good portion for the size. I just think its aggravating that the only thing they always get correct seems...

So I ordered on the menu it’s called Gringa I am very disappointed. These are packet tortillas not even handmade then on top of that it has no toppings like sour cream cheese that was a little bit of lettuce and tomato that it came wet. I only ate half of the gringa That green sauce you see on top is from my house homemade which I had to add it on it for some flavor.

Another guacamole it was a disappointment that they put it over the chips instead of putting it on the side on the container. I’m just very disappointed with this restaurant I would never order from here ever again and one more thing.

I’ve been too many Mexican restaurants. I grew up in a town full of Mexican restaurants. Let’s just say that I’ve traveled around unfortunately I moved and this is what I have down the street never again.
