So we went to Mr Chickpea in south portland on Tuesday He got sick about a half hour after eating and on our way to roller skating. So we had to call them up, express our concerns. The guy who works late night mind is touching money, putting it in his pockets mind you, touching phone, markers and returning to the food and touching that in the back. Hos English was next to none, and had put me on the phone with the owner. Who then statez how he preped the food earlier that day and nobody else was sick I said look it's not even about the fact I've spend 55 dollars on two meals, and two drinks,it's the fact he's got food posionimg, throwing up non stop. He then has me pass the phone back after putting my name n numerous on the box. I was told he'd contact t me and now the dudes pulling $40 back out of hos pocket, returns to serving and touching food. The owner at 1st aid he'd have to shut down imedqtely, and if not he'd contact me. Here we are 3 days later no contact and he's puking again three times today, stick in bed, sweat rolling down his face when I woke up. I warmed him after distinctive research that yes you can be effective within 30 min of eating, and could possibly show back up 3 days later and it has with alot of concern. I've conta Ted CDC, and once he is well enough we will be gping to tje emergency room. My bet from all the information I've gatjered, visits cross contamination, other fact he cooks his food earlier In tje day and serves it at night, reheating it mind you. I've dated and eaten plenty of middle Eastern food, cooked by many middle Eastern friends. That was just gross Mr. Chickpea. The rice was pure mush, his beef shawarma was sapost to come cube and dude working said yes it did, it looked like hamburge and burnt, most likely from being cooked x2.not to mention the garlic naun that came with no garlic, only cooked on one side, and the othwr side of bread was covered in Grease Never again.. It won't allow me or give the option to post pics but I'm hoping to on there...

Everyone has been talking about Mr. Chickpea on the SoPo FB page, so being a falafel and hummus lover I had to check it out. Wow is all I can say! It was easily the most flavorful falafel I have ever had. The falafel balls were perfectly crunchy while still being soft in the middle. Eastside Pockets who?? (If you’ve been to Providence you know) I purchased the falafel platter which comes with 6 pieces (wow!), unreal hummus, rice or FF, dolmas, pickled veggies and a cabbage salad. I also purchased some zaatar hummus, tzatziki, babaganoush & dolmas from the prepared food fridge. It came to approx $36 for all of this food!! Everything was so fresh and popped with bright flavor. The owner was so pleasant and you can tell he truly takes pride in his food. He is going to have to end up hiring some help because three different parties walked in after me tonight eager to try his food. It looks like word is getting out which is an amazing thing!!!

My one suggestion would be to label the prepared foods in the fridge even just by the row they are in. There are at least five different types of hummus and I would love to know what they all were as well as some other things. All of the desserts looked spectacular to boot. I am looking forward to trying more food at Mr. Chickpea. What a fantastic addition to...

My friends and I were heading back from Acadia and were starving for some halal food. We couldn’t find a lot of options as it was past 8pm. Gladly, there was Mr.Chickpea open and we went straight to the restaurant.

Upon arrival, the owner Mr. Ahmad greeted us warmly and walked us through the menu. Although we were familiar with the Mediterranean cuisine, he expressed that it’s new in this area and he had a unique touch in the menu items.

We ordered Lamb & chicken Shawarma wrap, Chicken Skillet and Lamb Chops. The portion size was generous and the taste was excellent. The chicken shawarma had a unique taste, despite having shawarmas across the middle east and in Canada - i could safely say it was the best. The lamb chops were so fresh and juicy that we wanted more. The chicken skillet tasted incredible as well.

We had a great chat with Mr. Ahmad about his journey with the venture and we were absolutely delighted to meet him and have an insightful conversation. He is a gem of a person.

I don’t know when I will be travelling to Maine again but I would definitely come...

Dry It Was… and Slow to Rise from the Kitchen Strong with flavor, the falafel wrap was not. Dry it was—like chewing sand on the Dune Sea of Tatooine. Barely any sauce, only a dense wrap of missed opportunity. ⏳ Waited long I did—far longer than a simple falafel wrap should require. One would think they were grinding chickpeas fresh with a lightsaber. For a fast-casual spot, the pace was more Jedi Council deliberation than lunch service. 🍟 Fries were crisp and satisfying, a redeeming side that didn’t require the patience of Master Yoda. 💰 Combo for $12.95 includes wrap, fries, and a drink—but if moisture and speed are what you seek, consider another path. Final Rating: ⭐ 2 out of 5 stars — Dry wrap, slow service. Disappointed, this Jedi is. Maybe an off night they were having as the other reviews paint a much better picture.
