Well I got there and they told me that didn't have a room available for us to have the dog something you don't want to hear when you just drove 7 hours from nj. Than they said they didn't have my daughter on the reservation. Which the whole reason we we were there was for my daughter. I had a long discussion with the guy who made the reservation especially because I have my emotional support dog with me and I wanted to be in a room with not a lot of traffic so she wouldn't bark to disturb other guest. Than the girl said oh someone just checked out today so I have a room. The room was in a good location however. The door did not lock. Looked like someone had broke into the room previously and was not fixed right. I had to lift the door to lock the door and the flip latch was broken and the peek hole had paper stuffed in it and the room smelt like smoke but after the air ran for a little I didn't smell as bad. The headboard was all crushed down like someone had some ruff sex on that bed previously kindle of gave me the gross feeling but after driving all that way and being exhausted I fell asleep. The next morning my husband got up and got breakfast early while my daughter and I slept and they had already ran out of sausage and the girl said she was not making anymore. He was very upset about that because the was a basketball team there eating all the food and taking on those customers they have been limited or the hotel should have had plenty more for other hotel guest. Girl couldn't give me a receipt when I checked in and told .e the cost was 116 with tax with the dog and my daughter. I gave her the credit card. Next morning we had five charges on my card. Own said to 50 holds would go back which did but because of the condition of the room the lack of breakfast and a nit so nice young girl doing the food and didn't care about other guess. I would have chosen another hotel because of all this plus my reservation not being correct and being told there was not a room for me with my dog and conveniently one showed up. Started to get upset because all of this was told and he said he put everything in the notes. Very upsetting after a 7 or 8 hour long drive. Emotions I didn't need and the upset husband for the 10 hour drive home going on about the hotel service and the breakfast and the girl in the dining area. Sorry but I need to tell all because I expected better for the choice recommendation and cost. I still had to buy breakfast on the way because of the basketball team eating everything and the girl not replacing what was empty. Sorry to say I will try another place when we come back...
Read moreI am writing to formally escalate a health and safety issue I experienced during my recent reservation at the Quality Inn South Portland on Saturday August 23, 2025 . I am requesting a full refund due to conditions that made it impossible to safely remain in the room.
When I checked into my assigned room, it had an overwhelming chemical odor that immediately caused nausea, throat irritation, and lightheadedness. The odor was so strong it clung to our clothes even after leaving the room. When I reported this to the front desk, staff acknowledged that many other guests have also complained of the same issue.
The staff then placed an odor-neutralizing machine in the room and instructed us to stay out for 15 minutes. However, the machine was left running for 30 minutes. Based on their instructions, we re-entered after 20 minutes while the machine was still operating and were directly exposed to the chemicals being dispersed. This exposure worsened our symptoms — we felt faint, nauseous, and developed stronger throat irritation as well as shortness of breath.
At that point, it was unsafe and unreasonable to continue occupying the room. We had no choice but to leave the property without using the accommodation we had paid for.
I was later told that the property would not issue a refund because of a “20-minute window” policy. However, this situation goes beyond policy:
-The chemical odor was present upon check-in, before any treatment was done. We assumed the smell would disappear but it would not. We were unable to open the windows so we're fanning out the room using the door.
-The odor-neutralizing machine was run longer than the timeframe provided to us, which directly led to our chemical exposure.
-Your staff admitted that other guests have reported the same issue, showing this is an ongoing, unresolved health hazard.
This situation is not simply a matter of inconvenience — it is a serious health and safety concern. Exposing guests to unsafe levels of cleaning chemicals or ozone/odor neutralizers carries liability risks, particularly when guests become ill as we did.
I would prefer to resolve this matter directly with Choice Hotels by receiving a refund. However, if this issue is not addressed promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate my concerns to the Portland Health Department, given the clear risks to guest safety and the repeated nature of these complaints.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. I look forward to your...
Read moreSo we booked a online hotel.com Originally for two nights in the end, we decided we only needed to stay one night and they were great and refunded the second night. So we head up to Maine four hours get a phone call from the hotel asking if we’re still coming because they can’t seem to get the payment from hotel.com Which we had already paid for So I said we’ll deal with it when we get up there. Cell service is poor on the drive so I get up there and I get online and chat with hotel.com and they can’t get the payment to work so long story made short canceled our booking and redid it and had to pay again. Hotel.com is refunding our money. So that was all a pain I won’t book with them again moving forward. The young lady at the desk was fabulous. Very kind. I will give her a five star rating. The hotel, however, gets a one never will stay there again. We get up to our room and it’s not even cleaned mind you this is after 10 PM We are exhausted and want to go to bed. Again, the lady at the desk was fabulous very apologetic totally disgusted with their mate service who had said the room was clean. She gave us another room we go in and it’s clean, but smells really bad of disinfectant But we go to bed not the most comfortable beds pillows sucked. I get up 5:30 AM to go to the event we were headed to and go to take a shower and realize they never clean the shower. Disgusting. Towels were cheap. Little to say besides the lady at the desk, I wouldn’t stay here ever. Honestly, motel six is better. They should not be sharing anything over 100 bucks a night and not even that if they can’t get Decent maid service. I can put up with a lot, but not on cleanliness No carpets in the rooms which is fine. It’s vinyl flooring and the flooring was like tacky slippery under our shoes. Gross gross gross if it hadn’t been after 11 PM at this point, we would’ve found...
