This review will be long, but this restaurant deserves every word of recognition. You can tell it’s owned and operated by real Jamaicans that KNOW how to cook and not watered-down second or third-generation owners trying to keep a legacy alive, like Pimento, which disrespects us by serving shredded jerk chicken, or Irie Jamaican Express in Midtown, which consistently misses the mark on authenticity.
This spot and Nanny’s on Rice street are hands down two of the best Jamaican restaurants in the Twin Cities. I’ve tested EVERY Jamaican restaurant in Minneapolis. Yes, all of them and have the receipts to prove this. When you grow up on authentic Jamaican food, you know who gets it right and who needs to close shop.
Let’s start with the portion size. It’s generous and exactly how it’s done in Jamaica and places like Queens, New York, where there’s a heavy Jamaican presence. I’ve always said Twin Cities Jamaican spots tend to skimp on servings, dishing out small plates that clearly aren’t made with Jamaican natives in mind, the very people who would be their most loyal customers. It feels disrespectful when you pay a premium for a taste of home and get scraps. But this restaurant? They’ve got it right. You get your money’s worth, no questions asked.
Another huge win: you don’t have to choose between cabbage and plantain. Anyone who knows Jamaican food knows a proper plate needs both. It’s not complete without them, and this place delivers.
The curry goat, fried and jerk chicken? Absolutely delicious. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients, and they don’t ruin the dish with fillers like over saturated chunks of potato and “broad” beans. I’ve had the oxtail and goat at other so called Jamaican places and it’s so tough and chewy you’d think pressure cookers were elusive to US residents. This is something I’ve seen far too often at places trying and failing to recreate our cuisine.
This restaurant is a gem in South St. Paul. I wish them nothing but continued success and expansion across the State. We need more places like this to set the standard for what Jamaican food should really be. If you’re looking for the real thing don’t hesitate. This is one of the best in the...
Read moreI tried Jamaican food for the first time of my life today on Monday, August 25th, 2025, and I thought it was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!!!!!! I had a nice, big platter of Curried Goat mixed with boiled potatoes, and brown rice with beans and steamed mixed vegetables on the side, and it was SUPER DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I give this cool Jamaican restaurant and their food a "Two Thumbs Up............WAY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 👍👍 And I give them a 10-star rating instead of a 4-Star rating just to be more nicer to make them feel very extremely happy too!!!!!!!!!!! "⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!" I also loved the clean atmosphere of the inside part of this very nice restaurant, and even the sounds of the classic roots of Reggae music of any kind that plays on the TV screen that's attached to the wall in this fun Jamaican food "joint"! (Get it???!!! Joint???!!!) LOL 😂😂😂😂 Anyways, I had a lot of fun at this rare exotic restaurant I've never seen or heard about before until me and whoever saw it went in there and tried it out, and that's why I thought I would give you guys the support you needed to try to advertise this Jamaican-style food place in the great city of South St. Paul, MN by putting it on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, X (formerly called Twitter back in the day), and TV commercials on television nowadays so all of you guys can make a whole bunch of money on advertisements for the D&G Jamaican Restaurant by me giving you all the biggest credit for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read moreHad absolutely fantastic dinner takeout from D&G this weekend. I live in SSP and was SO excited to see this place move into town. I’m a huge fan of JA food as it is one of my favorite places in this world. I was so so happy to hear Jamaican accents as I went up the stairs to pick up my order - and the food was no disappointment. I had the curry chicken dinner and it made two very filling and delicious meals. The spice level was great - a nice little slow burn after swallowing but nothing to be concerned about if you’re a typical midwesterner who may not care for spicy. I am wondering if one could ask for a bit more spice - I’ll inquire next time I order because I WILL be back and I WILL recommend to...
