What a gem of a restaurant. We were told this was a great place by some people who visited us recently. We decided to go see for ourselves and we will definitely return. We orders the Sambuusas (tender beef inside a pastry, served with a mildly spicy sauce. You can also order them in chicken or vegetarian) and the Hilltop Ethiopian Meat special half order, which comes with three meats and a sides of salad, rice and Injera (a spongy, pancake type bread that we'd had with our friends from Eritrea before...soaks up sauces wonderfully). If you do the full order it has added items. This was more than enough for my wife and me. Everything was bursting with flavor. They also had a free vegetable and noodle soup, which also very good. This place has something for everyone. Asian, African, Mediterranean, European, vegetarian. There is something on the menu and a kids menu. The prices were very reasonable and the portions ample. With a single drink our bill came to $38 before tip. The staff was very helpful, had great suggestions and the place is very nicely decorated. If there were 6 stars, I give them in a heartbeat. not only will we be back, we'll be recommending this to all...
Read moreMy goodness. Trust me when I say that their food is just exploding with flavor! We’ve been wanting to go and try their food for awhile now but just haven’t gotten the chance. Last night we arrive around 7:20ish pm (they close at 8pm) to get some food to go. They were very friendly and easy to talk to. Upon reading the reviews, someone suggested to get the hilltop special if you wanted to try all of their meats.. So I requested for it and they told us that the full was probably more than enough for two people but we wanted left overs so we went with the full order. It took some time but it’s because it was a half tray full of food, plenty and more for the both of us to have for dinner. We got home and.. Surprisingly, we ate almost everything 😂😂😂 we got too full to continue eating. Our first bite was soooo savory and satisfying. We definitely plan to go back to try other menu items. My favorite was the injera and the lamb meat!! I’ve had sour injeras and theirs was right on the dot with flavoring. The lamb was exquisite 🤤 also the injera in curry and the chicken with it.. I’d say go try it for yourself and allow your taste buds to...
Read moreI ordered two items, one of which was a Greek Salad. The menu said it was composed of Kalamata olives, feta chesse, cucumber, tomatoes, red onions, and their special house vinegrette.
What I got was mostly romaine lettuce (but end white chunks only, some with dirt on them, tomatoes, red onions, a crumbly white cheese that was NOT feta ( restaurant does have their own house made cheese, which is what they probably used, and nothing else. The "house vinegrette" had no vinegar in it at all, nor any lemon, or anything sour. It was sweet. It did not have olive oil in it. It tasted like soybean oil, and it had black specks of dehydrated herbs that had decomposed and turned black. There was no flavor of garlic or mustard, other.
Making a "vinegrette and not having any vinegar in it is poor food safety, because the sweet water mixed with dried herbs would spoil.
I asked about the missing olives, and it was shrugged off. I had allready paid for takeout.
If you go to Hilltop, only get Ethiopian food. They don't care if they get other kinds...
