I wanted to like this place more but both times I have gone here it was not very good. The last time zapped any remaing interest in the place, I was 5 minutes from just leaving. It took nearly an hour to get our food after ordering. The manager? reassured us it was coming. Part of the issue was I had to flag down someone to take our order as tables next to us that were seated much later were getting in orders first, the other was our order came much later than tables that ordered at the same time as us. I ordered the french toast and it tasted like eggy grilled cheese. I geniunly don't think the cook that day knew how to make french toast despite being on the menu and that would have explained the crazy delay and outcome. The bacon was so cooked i could have crumbled it into dust. I liked the sausage, that was about it and I was really hoping to find new local place. I guess I'm not ordering the things people are rating at 4.6. The atmosphere seemed nice, wait staff seemed nice if not confused or overloaded both times i was here. If I'm being honest I would rate this place below perkins at a 3 and nowhere near as good homestyle place like Magnolias, both times I came here the food was meh to not good and turn around can take a long time with no warning. Are they know for a...
Read moreI am a fan of Mom & Pop restaurants...diners in particular. I always enjoy finding ones that I haven't been to yet. We decided to try this little place in the heart of South Saint Paul for brunch. It was busy when we arrived...with no open tables. It's quite a small restaurant...limited seating is to be expected. Regardless...we didn't wait more than three minutes for a table to open up. Besides the kitchen staff...just two ladies were running the dining area/front counter. They moved nonstop...and...still managed to keep up on frequent coffee refills for us. The menu was typical diner fare...and...the prices were fantastic. The food was good...and...arrived soon after we ordered. Portion size was very fair for the price. There is a decent ala carte menu too. I added a single pancake onto my order. It was very tasty...probably my favorite part of the meal. The parking lot is small...and...fills up quickly. There is ample nearby street parking though so...not an issue. This is a no frills establishment with cute decor...and...lots of mature plants. It seems to be a favorite with locals also as many folks in there appeared to know one another. I'd definitely stop back if I'm in the area again. Very...
Read moreIt's sad to leave this review because it was completely preventable with one short sentence by the waitress when seating me. I arrived at 12:20pm on a Wednesday or a little after and placed my order at 12:25pm of a Philly Cheesesteak and fries. I received that food at 1:05pm, 40 minutes later. I did get a refill on iced tea about half way through that wait after it had been empty for about 5 minutes. No apology for the wait. Between when I ordered a table of ten and two tables of three received their food, all of which had been ordered before I arrived, so I had no way to know to expect this kind of wait with still several tables empty when I got there. The Philly and fries were decent (3.5-4 stars) but this could've been prevented by the waitress simply saying when seating me, "We just had about 16 people order in the last several minutes so your food will take at least a half hour. Are you ok waiting?" I'd have left, and came back another time and probably left a much...
