serve such unique comfort food! The owner was very friendly and helpful. I had no idea how to pronounce most of the dishes, but he was very patient even though, I am sure he has to teach customers all day, every day. I want to go back, not just because of the food, but because he was so nice.
After looking through the whole menu several times, we decided to share the Balkan Mix Platter for one, which is way too much food for just one person.
We like to try a variety of dishes when we go to a new restaurant, and the mix platter was loaded with almost every kind of meat on the menu! It was delicious and should be shared with the whole table. The cevapi (skinless sausages) and the veal kebab were my favorites from the platter.
We ordered ajvar (pronounced aye-var) to go with all our meat. Ajvar is a spicy eggplant relish that tastes good with everything.
The owner/waiter recommended the Greek salad to go with our platter. The salad was good quality and balanced out the otherwise heavy meal.
This is one I definitely want to revisit because their menu is loaded with incredible dishes. I'd like to try the Bosnian pita (made with phyllo) and their tufahija, which is a baked apple stuffed with chocolate and walnuts, and topped with whipped cream.
Unfortunately, we were the last customers of the day and they were all out of these items. If you want to explore all the options, I would recommend you go...
Read morePeople in the reviews are saying that the service was terrible but the food was okay. That is the exact opposite of my experience. The service was fine. Not extraordinary but it was fine. However, the food was just horrendous. Very rubbery meat, store bought slices of white bread, bland carton rice, no sauces or condiments, and the chicken was drier than the bread! I definitely don't think this place is worth patronizing. I honestly don't know what everyone is talking about when they say the food is delicious. It very clearly is not. I really don't see what kind of a person would enjoy the taste and texture of this food. Don't believe me? Go get a plate and see how nasty it is for yourself. I'm a little bummed because this was my first exposure to Bosnian/Balkan cuisine and it was a disaster. I'll have to wait a couple months before trying Cevapi from somewhere else. It legitimately was that gross. It was like eating a rubber band that tasted like a McDonald's Sausage McMuffin. I'm genuinely surprised at all these good reviews 😆. Was I just that unlucky that I caught them on their worst...
Read moreI've passed this restaurant quite literally hundreds of times and always thought to myself "I should give them a shot" so I did. The interior is decorated more like a homely kitchen than a public eatery. The atmosphere is not your common American diner as the kitchen, front staff, and other guests bantered back and forth in a wonderful language I couldn't understand a lick of. Luckily smells are universal. One step in the door and I needed a seat immediately.
Most of the cuisine was fairly unknown to me and I simply asked for something delicious I couldn't get anywhere else. My remaining senses were overjoyed as I received an egg, potato, and seasoned beef special. A patron next to me overheard it was my first time and he shared this cheese pita, next visit... oh yes. Nomnomnom For dessert I tried Tufahija, a poached apple stuffed with walnuts and chocolate topped with a healthy dollop of whip cream. Fantastic food and very friendly folks. I will most assuredly return to this wonderful and inviting place to stuff my...
