I don't know if this is just normal for this area or if I did something to offend but this was the worst hotel experience I've ever had in my life. I flew into SLC a day early for a wedding to check it out and see what there was to do in town(not much). I didn't have a room and booked the cheapest room at a decent place I could get that was close-ish to downtown SLC because I thought I might be able to walk and check out the sights.
I was dead wrong. It's on a highway and youcan't walk anywhere. That's not the fault of the hotel though, and when I arrived, a gentleman named Bill checked me in. Really nice guy. I was early so Bill allowed me to check my bag with them and he called me when the room was ready instead of making me wait until 3pm. Incidental hold was $100/night which is higher than standard, but it gets put back instantly if you use a credit card. No big deal. I heard him and his coworkers speaking in Hindi, so I busted out my best Hindi pleasantries(I was born and raised here so my Hindi sucks) and continued on my way.
I get my room key from Bill and go up to the room where I realized that I forgot my suitcase, so I go down to get it. There was a lady who I came to know as Nini there and instead of giving me my bag she made my go back into the storage closet and move other people's bags so that I could get mine. Ok weird but I'm pretty muscular and I'm better suited for the job anyway.
As I'm walking up the stairs back to my room she tries to stop me and says "hey, you have a room here!?" after she had literally just given me back my suitcase! I said "yeah..." and she grilled me, asking for my room number and last name.
Literally that moment a white German couple walks in, admits they have no reservation, and she goes out of her way to be nice to them, offering them free drinks and stuff from the little lobby market. Why is this random couple with no reservation getting treated better than someone who is actively staying there?
Nighttime people were great, everybody was really nice. The front desk girl at night gave me a 12pm checkout, which isn't really a late checkout because I didn't have to get my key reprogrammed. I'm assuming whatever brand hotel was here before had 12pm checkouts and they didn't bother getting the lock system changed when they bought it. She told me to check with the morning person because an actual late checkout would be dependent upon where housekeeping was at.
I watched cable and passed out and woke up at 6am to hit the gym and then hit the breakfast buffet. Really good breakfast buffet - they even had sugar free syrup for the waffles, which is really thoughtful if you're diabetic or dieting.
Anyway I come back and Nini was at the desk. I asked for a 2pm late checkout and she said there was no late checkout available and I had to be out by 11. She didn't even bother to check the computer, and they are not sold out tonight either(I checked online). I informed her that I already had 12pm and just needed more time because the groom of the wedding I am attending wouldn't get out of work until 2pm and I wanted to iron my suit and shirt and maybe take a nap until he got there to pick me up.
Around 1130 I go to the ATM in the lobby to get cash out to tip housekeeping and Nini instantly starts harassing me about getting out of the room, informing me once again that I only had until 12pm. I said I needed to get my luggage in the room and asked if that was alright with her.
I check out at 1145 and as I give her the key she literally says "finally, you're leaving!!!" and snatches the key out of my hand. I asked for a printed receipt which she declined to give me.
There were a bunch of cops in the lobby and she was being really sweet with them. In fact, she was being really kind and sweet to every single person in the lobby except for me! Everyone else was really kind, but Nini singled me out and made me feel like I was doing something wrong simply for existing. For that reason, I cannot recommend this place, especially for solo men of color...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for a few days while in town to take our dog for treatment at MedVet, not too far away from this hotel. I've stayed at several Comfort Inns before and have always found them to be...not worth the money. This location, though, punches well above its weight.
The lobby, for one thing, is thoughtfully designed: bright, natural light, comfy chairs, a fireplace, soaring ceilings. Someone was always cleaning, a welcome change from the usual lackluster efforts by other Comfort Inn chains.
Staff are friendly, professional, and helpful. The rooms, though, are what mattered, and the place didn't disappoint. Really spacious for standard rooms, with plenty of space; big, cozy beds; large, flat screen TV with lots of cable channels (I basically binged "Law and Order: SVU" the entire time; brightly lit, squeaky clean bathrooms.
This is a super tiny thing but also spoke to the level of detail that went into what I guess was a recent renovation, based on some earlier reviews: there's a big, full-length mirror across from the bathroom, and next to it, about 4.5' off the ground, is a little shelf along with a couple of three-prong outlets. I'd never seen that before in a non-5 star hotel chain. It was perfect for blowdrying/styling my hair and applying makeup, especially since the natural light from the window honestly made for much better lighting than the bathroom mirror has!
We had a couple of issues: one was a weak flow shower, and the other was that the fridge wasn't cooling well. Bob, the hotel manager, fixed both quickly, and every morning after that he'd inquire to see if we were happy with our rooms and to let him know asap if we had any other issues. He clearly cares about the comfort of his guests, and when we checked out he even offered us drinks from the little kiosk behind the reception. (We declined as we were on our way to breakfast, but we were touched by his kindness.)
We'd absolutely stay here again the next time we're in town. It's very well located, relatively quiet, and just has a chill, welcoming vibe that's perfect for when you're coming from out of town and exhausted from a long drive. Strongly...
Read moreOverall, the stay was pleasant. I was in town for one night for a concert at the Urban Lounge. The hotel room was clean and had all the amenities we needed for a one night stay. The front desk agent that checked me in was friendly and pleasant and I appreciated him giving me directions to the elevator that was closest to my room. He was very thorough and informative! The elevator was located just around the corner from my room, which is convenient for my dog and disabled mother who were travelling with me. There was even handicap parking in the back, allowing easy access to the back entrance of the hotel. The pet fee was reasonable compared to other hotels and I completely understand needing the deposit, which is fine. I would say the only complaints would be the bed and the shower/bathroom. I was in a deluxe king suite, which overall was very spacious and the bed itself was comfortable. However, it seemed to have some kind of metal base and made loud sound every time we got on or off the bed. It was quite loud and late at night, I was worried about waking up the guests below us as well as my mother and dog. The bathroom was a tad small and cramped. The shower curtain was also not good. I'm not sure if it was missing the actual curtain as it looked like the fabric shower liner was the only thing on the rod. I appreciated the non-slip mat in the shower as well as the bars, but due to the curtain being so thin, by the time I finished my shower, the floor was soaked and the shower mat was useless as it was completely drenched in water. I had to use the towels to dry up a lot of the water that had come out of the shower. I made sure the magnets at the bottom of the curtain were secure and kept the curtain closed during the shower, but it still made the floor sopping wet. It was still a very pleasant stay and had what we needed for a one night stay. It was also very conveniently located to the Urban Lounge so I didn't have to travel far from the hotel to...
