Mrs Murphy’s has been a tradition for my family for over 40 years. And not just because they sell AMAZING doughnuts!!!! Background: My parents took my kids to Mrs Murphy’s every summer when they visited from OH, and my parents ate at Mrs Murphy’s every Wednesday for decades. They always ordered the same lunch: a bowl of Chile, half a turkey salad on toasted white with lettuce and tomato and 2 lemon donuts. My daughter would drive an hour north from Hartford where she attended college for the promise of some “chocolate covereds” when things were rough at school. In the past few years my parents have been home bound but still we’d stop and pick up a Mrs Murphy’s carry out picnic during our regular visits. Whitney would always ask about how they were doing. Alas, both my parents died the week before and after Thanksgiving. And so today I found myself overwhelmed with emotion as I visited Mrs Murphy’s for the last time (I live out of town) and ordered my parents’ lunch. Cade took my order, such a sweetheart, insisted on paying for my lunch and giving me a hug. I refused his goodwill (maybe not very gracious of me) but was touched by the gesture anyway. Just seemed like the kind of thing that would be characteristic of this hometown establishment. I cannot recommend this place enough.... and BTW, if you like Lemon Meringue Pie then you have to try the lemon filled doughnuts!!! Although my daughter would vote for the chocolate covered and my son,...

As you walk through the door I thought I was walking into a small New England farmhouse in the middle of beautiful Northern Massachusetts.. when I looked at the display case below the counter my diabetic meter went through the roof. Sweets in every shape and form decorated and delightfully displayed. I thought I was safe to look up. I saw a whole mouth watering wall of delicious donuts. my favorites chocolate and Honey Dew . My feet started doing somewhat of a Riverdance in pure delight. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich sausage egg and swiss cheese on an everything bagel. It was delicious. I was greeted by a beautiful young lady with Gorgeous auburn hair she took my breath away (love red hair) her natural beauty had me distracted a bit from my original order. When I looked at her I almost called her red velvet but I was ordering a donut. Once I gathered my senses I put my order in. All the ladies work like a fine-tuned machine. They worked in sync reaching punching in numbers grabbing Donuts all perfect. I got my order and headed for the door. I never said good morning so many times in my life. This is a small establish with a big heart and it shows in their food and their workers also in their customers. I would definitely recommend stopping by in the morning and grabbing some for goodies for your coworkers. Let's make everyone happy with mrs. Murphy's Donuts...
Read moreI took the 58 mile drive to Southwick from southern Connecticut just to try Mrs. Murphy's Donuts. My son says Mrs. Murphy's Donuts are better than Neil's Doughnuts in Wallingford, CT. I wanted to find out for myself if what he tells me agrees with my take on them. Ok, so here goes: I bought three each, glazed crullers, Strawberry jelly, and Raspberry jelly donuts from Mrs. Murphy's. Three of us (my sister, my neighbor, & I) tried each. Our conclusions all agreed that Neil's are far and away better products than we had from Mrs. Murphy's. That's NOT to say we didn't like these donuts, only that Neil's sets the bar way too high for any real comparison. Additionally, Neil's donuts are all the same, very reasonable price. There's no premium for certain donuts, like there is here. If we'd never eaten donuts from Neil's, these would have been fine. But these donuts, in our collective opinion, are more akin to Dunkin Donuts than to a real, old fashioned handmade donut. Just to note, there was a long line of folks waiting in line for these products much as there is at Neil's. So clearly, folks in the area love these donuts. I also tried an apple fritter, something Neil's doesn't offer. Other than being overly sweet, it was very good, had lots of apple flavor, & pieces of apple. It's just not worth the 116 mile round...
