Papi Chulo's Cantina — Restaurant in Spencer

Update: Went back for dinner with wife, sister and her husband. Sister had Loaded Rice, her husbnd had Mexican Loaded Potato, wife had Chicken Burrito and I had Carnitas taco platter. Also ordered chips and salsa. Chips had zero salt but their salsa is good. Everyone enjojyed their food but me. There was no seasoning on the meat in my tacos. Talked to some locals afterward and they said the food was generally good but could be inconsistent. My sister and her husband live there and have eaten there several times. They each only like one dish, those that they ordered. May or may not go back. Downgrading them a star.

Original review: Had lunch here with my wife. Bottom line is we’ll go back. Server was prompt and friendly. Food came out quickly and it was HOT! We ordered from the $9 lunch menu and were very pleased with the portion sizes. I had chicken fajitas and she had chicken enchiladas. We both had a Pineapple Kick cocktail (tequila, mezcal, pineapple juice,+). Food and drink were both very good. You don’t get chips and salsa unless you’re order them. Interior decor is dark! Black walls, black & red seating. Murals on walls with bright colors can’t rescue it. Bar is attractive and well lit, maybe we’ll sit there next time. We have been coming here pretty regularly and have really enjoyed it. Last night, though, I ordered a taco salad to go for the first time. When I started eating it at home, the tortilla shell tasted like a chemical cleaner. When took a bite, it burned the top of my mouth.

I don't know if they keep the tortillas too close to the cleaning agents or spilled some how on it, but it definitely had been exposed. I called trying to explain to them what happened, so they could check to make sure no one else had this experience. It's really rude and unprofessional when I politely called to explain what I experienced the lady hung up on me either because she didn't understand what I was trying to say or because she didn't want to deal with me.

In addition, their menu online quotes the food at cheaper prices than when you get the bill. Online taco salad $13 chorizo $2 enchiladas $13

Very over priced for average food. Black beans were very runny. I ordered 1 cheese enchilada and she brought me out a plate of 3 for $15. No explanation. I didn't eat the others as I didn't order and was full on the 1 did order. Son ordered fajitas which the daily sign said were on special for $3 off, but they didn't fix our bill on that either. There were 4 of us so we begrudgingly ordered the $7 Chips and Salsa. For 4 people we received a single small 1/2 cup dish of Salsa & then enough chips for 2 people maybe, not 4. Ridiculous. No refiills, no plates for the others to share. This was not some 4 star elegant, fine dining Mexican food. The pricing, quality design are way off. As others have said, the no chips & salsa is dissapointing, as all other restaurants offer this, such as the other local Mexican restaurant right down the road, the one we will return to next time instead of here for far less money and...
