Sammy's Italian Pasta & Pizza — Restaurant in Spencer

Located on Spencer Iowa's South Grand Avenue is the gem of a restaurant known as Sammy's Italian Pasta & Pizza. This eatery serves up some of the most delicious Italian cuisine around. Their menu includes; Salads, Spaghetti, Home Baked Pastas, Homemade Specialties, Chicken dishes, Veal dishes, Seafood dishes, Sandwiches, Side orders and a locals favorite, their Pizza! Plus, twice daily they make and serve, with each table, their (should be patented) dinner rolls. Our group had their: • Chicken Florentine - Mushroom, onions, spinach, garlic cream sauce over spaghetti. My wife absolutely loved this large and tasty meal. • Chicken Marsala - Sauteed chicken with fresh mushroom, marsala wine sauce over spaghetti. I absolutely loved this (best ever) large and tasty meal. • Spaghetti Meatballs - Meatballs over a portion of spaghetti and smothered with their homemade marinara sauce. Our young diner loved this dish even though it required a face washing afterward. Their quality of superior service is slightly overshadowed by the quality of their superb dishes! Food can be great but I've had problems here more then once and we have a family of 6 so its expensive. We ordered 2 spaghetti and meatball dinners and 3 chicken alfredo dinners it came with the side salads and bread like normal (last time they forgot salads and bread and wouldn't do anything about it) This time food was awful unfortunately. I ordered around 8 picked up around 840 and they were just finishing up the order. So perfect timing. But our chicken alfredo meals were smaller than normal and full of oil and it wasn't creamy at all it was like the cooked it on high heat and curdled the milk/cream. By the time we noticed they were closed and it was last night on Sunday jan. 3rd well today is Monday and they are not open on mondays starting today. Don't judge a book by the cover! Don't pass this place up if you are traveling in Spencer on Highway 71 (on the west side of the road). First thing first...this place is being placed on my blog for "best little pizza places in Iowa." Let me give you some foodie advice "Fresh Dough" and you can tell the minute you walk in and see them hand tossing it in the back, OLD ITALIAN PIZZA STYLE! Awesome! You can also tell the minute you taste it. Great Pizza! Second, we went back (remember this is all carry out because of the COVID-19) they are backed up.
