My husband and I came here on Saturday, July 25th, around 1 pm. We were promptly seated and had good service up until the point we received our food. Literally five minutes after we got our food, our waitress came and gave us our check without even asking us if we wanted anything else(dessert, drinks, etc.), which made us feel rushed.
From there, we were completely forgotten about. After we had already finished our food, although very good, we sat waiting for over 20 minutes for someone to come take our check to pay. We tried to catch a couple people's eyes as there were several people that were coming in and out of the kitchen but no luck. When someone did finally come over to us, the lady that did so seemed slightly frazzled and obviously busy tending to her customers outside.
We were the only customers in the dining room by that time and as the lady was taking care of our bill, our waitress finally came out to talk to the lady taking care of the bill and didn't even come over to us to apologize for the long wait. We were table 3 if I recall correctly.
We could see this as a one-time thing, but my husband and I were here in March for my birthday and we had spent a good amount of money. We thought it was a one-off and gave grace as it was busy, but our waitress at the time would take forever to check on us, forgot several things so we had to keep asking for stuff that she forgot and by the time we received our appetizers, we were already being given our dinners. On top of that, any chance she got, she was sitting there talking with the people in the booth behind us as they were obviously friends, all the while ignoring her other customers.
My husband and I are very frustrated with the level of service we seem to continually get, especially considering this restaurant is certainly not "cheap." Hopefully something can be done about the service so others don't have to receive this poor level of service in the future. Between our 2 visits, we've spent nearly $200 for just two people and when I'm spending that amount of money, I certainly expect better service. I don't think we'll be dining here again any time soon, regardless of the good food.
EDIT Shortly after writing my original review, the owner reached out to me and graciously offered my husband and I a gift certificate to remedy our concerns. We finally had a chance to go back this past Friday, September 19th for their dinner service. We arrived around 5:20 p.m. and were promptly greeted and seated. As soon as we sat down, our waiter, Travis, greeted us and gave us menus, got us water, etc. We were at table 31 if I recall.
Service was SOOO much better than our previous visits and I'm very glad we returned!! Travis was an absolute gem and checked on us continually throughout our delicious meal. He was always there to refill our drinks before we even asked him and I saw he was equally attentive with his other customers at different tables. When I was looking at the menu and trying to choose between two things, I was asking my husband if he thought they would be able to add spice to a dish that wasn't spicy. Our waiter overheard me as he was walking up and said to ask away. I'm amazed he heard me! Talk about great service!
I really can't say enough good things about the service our waiter Travis provided, and hope he gets the recognition (and perhaps a raise?) he deserves! Thanks again to the owner, Troy, for reaching out and working with us on...
Read moreMy wife and I had a wonderful time here. We were traveling through Washington and had were staying at the Mirabeau. We read some of the reviews and walking by the restaurant we were intrigued.
After getting settled into the room we decided to make our way to get dinner. The atmosphere at the restaurant was great! The host took us quickly to a table and the booth was comfy!
Our server (Sean) came over and took our drink orders as soon as we were comfortably seated. He then returned with two local wines that were both well balanced with a great flavor profile.
As soon as we ordered we got slices of an amazing bread that had some olive oil with balsamic vinegar to dip on the side along with creamy butter! It was dangerous because it could be really easy to fill up on just the bread. Thankfully we were able to save enough room to enjoy the main course!
I got the voodoo pasta with grilled chicken. It was a massive bowl filled with perfectly cooked pasta and a spicy flavorful sauce. The sausage was a perfect addition to the dish. The only small complaint I have about this dish is that it was slightly oily at the end, but this is likely due to the sausage; it just meant that it might not be great reheated. What a terrible torment to have to enjoy this entire tasty dish. It did take some effort as it was a massive dish, this was practically my only real meal of the day so I was thankfully able to finish it.
My wife got the Chicken Piccata and she loved the flavors! I tried some of it and I also enjoyed that pasta dish.
On to one of the best parts of the evening, the dessert! We originally wanted to try the bread pudding however sadly they were already out of it. So instead we chose to go with the cheesecake with huckleberry glaze. The slice of the cheese cake is small, but don't let that fool you. It is filling and full of wonderful flavor and the glaze is just perfect. The glaze doesn't have any of the fake flavor or consistencies you get with many huckleberry flavors. It was sweet, but tasted much more balanced and fresh. The cheese cake helped balance and complimented the flavors of the glaze. I would order this again, but I still really want to try the bread pudding.
Long story short I would return here again. The atmosphere, décor, service and food was all excellent. This restaurant stands out as a great place to try and can be even more ideal if you have to stay in the area as the hotel is...
Read moreWe had high hopes with the reviews we read but, sadly, MAX didn't hold up.
The service was very good and the restaurant is large and clean. The warm bread is served with a whipped herb butter with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It was a nice way to start.
That's when things started declining. I ordered a French Onion Soup due to a review I saw. When it came out the cheese was melted but lacked any color typical of a good French Onion Soup. The cheese was quite thick and had a lot of pull. The crouton was quite thin so got lost in the cheese. The broth was sweeter than umami or salty. It is as if there was red onion that was undercooked in it. It was warm but not hot as a French Onion soup should be.
The Prime Rib Philly looked pretty good, but tasted of salt and not much else. It was as if it had marinated in a fake jus. The meat was falling apart and the onions and peppers were overwhelmed by the salt. The bun was soaked through at the bottom. The fries were nicely seasoned and crispy.
The clam linguine came in a fairly large bowl that was burning hot which is odd for a pasta dish. The pasta was very overcooked and so had turned into a mess. The clams were also overcooked so became rubbery. The sauce stood out here as it was flavorful and was very pleasant and herbaceous.
The martini was well balanced and priced well.
In summary, the service and atmosphere save the day. The food gave the appearance of being fancy without the quality or flavors...
