We probably had outsized expectations from all the glowing reviews. Also, weāve had great Thai food (in Portland, OR) with amazing presentation and ambience so our bar might be too high. 4 stars for the food, fewer for the rest.
We ordered the crab rangoon appetizer, green curry, pad thai, pad woon sen, a beef dish I donāt recall the name of. The crab rangoon was good but all we tasted was cream cheese, no crab. The other dishes were excellent, with the exception of the beef, which was tough and chewy. I also wish they had salad rolls.
The heat index of zero, mild, medium, etc is for an American palette. The owner said the green curry was spicy even without bumping up the heat. I donāt care for really hot food but it was barely spicy. Even I would bump it up a notch, and the other dishes 2 notches.
We enjoyed the food very much overall but will only go back for takeout. Thereās zero ambience and the chairs are uncomfortable. Our server, the owner, was nice but just piled the plates and silverware on the table for us to sort out. The dishes arrived with no serving utensils so we struggled with tablespoons. I admit we shouldāve spoken up. They donāt have a liquor license yet so no beer or wine was available. The signage is still the old Le Brothers sign which was confusing. It looks like theyāve only been open 4 months so hopefully some of these kinks will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been enjoying and cooking Thai food for decades before it was well known; so I am a self-titled, Thai food snob. I was skeptical to try a new Thai restaurant as all but 1 (previously) are just not good in our area; however Song Lan Thai did not disappoint! Finally, there are now 2 Thai restaurants in the Spok, CDA area to enjoy! Thai Kitchen may be the best Thai food in the country and now Song Lan Thai may be up there. I am excited to try the entire menu over time as I have only tried 2 dishes thus far. The Garlic Shrimp was the best I have had and the shrimp was fresh! The perfect balance of flavor this dish has here, is a testament to the chef as a simple dish with no where to hide. The Pad Thai was also very good with that glassy noodle feel few seem to accomplish. I look forward to trying their Curries and Pad Woon Sen and update as I go. I am not sure however, if I will be able to resist ordering the Garlic Shrimp on...

The Pad Thai? It's like a party in my mouth, and everyone's invited ā even the picky eaters! The Tom Yum soup? Let's just say it's got more kick than a martial arts movie marathon.
But the real showstopper? The staff! They're like culinary ninjas, stealthily delivering plates of deliciousness with lightning-fast precision. Plus, they've got jokes as spicy as their curries!
So, if you're ready to spice up your life and have your taste buds do the cha-cha, head over to Song Lan Thai! Just make sure to bring your appetite and maybe a fire extinguisher ā things are...
