Wouldn't recommend dining mid-afternoon. My friend and I arrived there at 1:30 p.m. this Thursday and had lunch and, at 2p a total of 3 drinks at the start point of "Happy Hour" beginning at 2pm. (I had a single, same cocktail as the next three, the old fashioned, prior to my friends arrival shortly after 2:00 p.m. when happy hour started) arriving into the establishment and at the individual tables there was no specific "Happy Hour drink specific menu" sitting on the table or offered to us so it was easy to assume the the short cocktail list on each table was the included happy hour, the regular & happy hour selection, as many establishments offer. I have one drink while waiting for my friend starting at 1:40 p.m. and then she arrives at 2:05 p.m. during happy hour. We order a total of three drinks after that 2pm happy hour start point with our two entrees and the old fashioned with chocolate bitters are quite different from the evening hour a few nights prior which is understandable since it is a different personality making them but the third drink is really short with a very same ingredient of a single Ice Cube at the same size. Out of curiosity I thought I would ask if anything is missing from the drink like the bitters or sugar or the little teaspoon or so of water that usually goes in an Old Fashioned and I get the usual curt reply from this server that it is made exactly the same way as the prior drinks. So I'm not going to assume anything but I will let her know that it is only half the volume of the first two and I was just curious. She says the same thing as though she's done with the conversation and I mentioned that my friend and I both notice there's no chocolate flavor so we were just guessing maybe we're missing some bitters maybe that little bit of water and our response from her was again quite dismissive. When we noticed we were charged regular price for each drink we got despite the happy hour and not being offered, as our server states we must request specifically, the happy hour menu I mentioned that this inherent knowledge they are expecting from the patrons is not typical. Not all patrons are going to know to ask for a special happy hour menu when they are offering happy hour on a clapboard and no menu that goes with it. It appears that the short cocktail list is the happy hour. She is more than enthusiastic to offer with a big smile that all patrons in the Northwest know to ask for a happy hour menu. And I offer, "For all the guests you were going to see that aren't from the northwest you might want to change your happy hour clapboard to include the phrase 'limited to happy hour menu' or just offer the happy hour menu at the table." Who would know that would bring about some additional shaming and maligning of my friend and I for offering that guidance as we are about to pay. It was a ridiculous and to all around strange service at that hour. And I don't know if that's the expectation of the owners to have servers greet and share conversation with patrons in this way but I'd be curious if that kind of service is not their intention and I would best be served perhaps in the evening shift instead if there was some difficulty managing the behavior of the afternoon shift server. Regardless, especially without the inputs of the owners, I'd have to put this restaurant I've enjoyed a handful of times in the past on the back burner for the randomness of transparency and the eagerness of patron shaming when I offered what the alternate perception from Outsiders of Elliott's and urban kitchen have been exposed to in the past. And how they might make their advertising a little more friendly for the pricing so we can make informed decisions. And not be shamed for expressing...
Read moreWednesday morning, August 13th, between 9 and 11:10am, found me in a cozy café where Jen set the tone with her vibrant energy and quick, smiling service. The food—a half order of biscuits and gravy paired with two perfectly cooked eggs—was as excellent as the atmosphere, enhanced by the appealing layout of a menu brimming with tempting descriptions. Only four tables were occupied, giving the place an easy, tranquil vibe, perfect for couples easing into the day after a late night or simply savoring a leisurely morning.
Friday, August 15th, around 2:30 to 5pm, and the scene shifted to the bar area. Matt, behind the counter, took a while to open up, but when he did, his expertise shone through, especially when I asked for menu insights. The recommended Black and Blue dish was superb, and next time, I’ll definitely add onions. The bar area maintained a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere; the savory descriptions provoked anticipation without crossing into overindulgence—no slobbers, just pure appetite.
These moments remind me that whether we’re refining a bot learning strategy or savoring a meal, nuance matters; attention to detail and authentic engagement create the best experiences. Stay tuned for my next visit—next week promises new discoveries and, perhaps, more...
Read moreI'm really torn on this place. We orderer scotch eggs and biscuits and gravy. Both were not bad but different which makes it hard to say if it was good or just ok. The scotch eggs were cooked great but with the chorizo i wasn't left wanting more, almost a bland in flavor not as much as you would expect.
The gravy had something in it like a parmesan cheese, which again wasn't bad, but just left me undecided if i like it allot or it was just ok.
The drinks are VERY boozy so keep that in mind if your just looking for a drink not a buzz. To drink i had a mimosa and spouse a tequila sunrise. The mimosa was mostly champagne and even though wife asked for a not too strong drink there was no shortage of tequila in her drink. Can't knock them for that, everyone has their own preferences on how strong drinks are. My rate has nothing to do with drinks.
I only gave 4 stars because although the food wasn't great it was FAR from bad. Like mentioned just different.
All in all i would recommend anyone trying it. The prices are very fair. The portion are good. I would try again but maybe something else...
