Staff is friendly and the place is clean with a modern rustic feel. Was there on New Year's Eve and it being a monday it was pizza night there. I really wanted to like their pizza, The crust was very very good, however, the pies were just not put together well. I had the classic pepperoni and my friend she had the Market. The crust was a nice thin crust the ingredients were well a little on the sparse side especially the cheese. But overall my pie was tasty. My friends pizza however was not so good, the crust once again was very very good, however the way the pie was put together was less than desirable. From a aesthetic point it was not pleasing to the eye when it arrived. There was a pile of Arugula in the middle mounded about 2 inches high, now we all know as far as pizza pies are put together the only thing one needs to do is either dig in or maybe sprinkle some parmesan or pepper flakes on it and then dig in. Not this one, my friend actually had to spread out the arugula over her pie. The cheese or lack of was not sprinkled out towards the edges so there was a 2 1/2 inch gap of plain crust without any ingredients. That pie was a definite strikeout, now on to the beers. I get a feeling that in this day and age everyone thinks they can start a brewery and brew beer. I had a stout which a stout is pretty much a fairly easy beer to brew because with the roasted malt you can kinda mask some imperfections. Well not this one, it had the look of a stout but it did not have the body nor the flavour of a nice stout. My friend had an Amber which again is a fairly easy beer to make and not mess up. The colour was off and it actually had almost the same taste as my stout, mayhaps it is the grains they are using or perhaps the yeast.I hope that they are not milling the grains close to their fermentation area and getting off flavours from the lactobacillus being released when milling their grains. I hope that in time their beer gets better, and that maybe the pizza ingredients that make up their pies aren't so exotic. I realize this is 2019 but you know a good Neopolitan pizza is a good one to make as well and with that pizza dough and their oven it would be an...
Read moreI can't tell you how the food is: that's because this business discriminates against the disabled so I didn't get to try the food. Multiple employees told (not asked, told) me to leave because I had my medical alert dog with me. When I answered by informing them she is a working service animal protected by the ADA, I was laughed and sneered at. (She is a Belgian Malinois trained for diabetic alert. She is absolutely a service dog, and she was not being at all disruptive: this is not a gray area.)
Every employee - yes, as I stood there minding my business, multiple employees singled me out - recited the same script word for word at me, in the same nasty condescending tone, telling me that my disability and I were not welcome. Every employee recited the same discriminatory script, which makes me think the business purposely trains staff to target, bully, and harass disabled customers.
I didn't need that kind of harassment in my life so we left. I have never before been so mistreated because of my disability and this business should be ashamed of themselves. They bullied and shamed me repeatedly, in violation of federal access law, for no reason whatsoever. Just absolutely appalling. I have filed an ADA compliance complaint with DOJ, and will never spend a dime at this bigoted business.
If you prefer businesses that don't discriminate against the disabled, The Shop is right up the street and is kind and welcoming to all. Including those with disabilities. They have wonderful baked goods and they don't discriminate against disabled customers. After the harassment we suffered at the Grain Shed, it was a refreshing change and a real relief that my friend, service animal, and I were so warmly welcomed at the Shop. Unlike the Grain Shed, we were able to enjoy our morning free of bullying at the Shop. The contrast could hardly be sharper, so I suggest you go to the Shop...
Read moreWe've loved The Grain Shed for ages; it's a very special place. Bakeries that prioritize local grain and naturally leavened baking can be hard to come by, so we feel very lucky to have this gem in our neck of the woods. The food is delicious and service is excellent. There is tremendous care put into connecting people with thoughtfully sourced/crafted and nutrient-dense food.
Our favorite treats are the bacon, egg, and cheese on a biscuit (weekends); pepperoni pizza (Mondays); Pain Suisse; and The Nelson cookie, though everything we've had has been super tasty.
The service is fabulous! The team is full of really excellent human beings who are enthusiastic, efficient, and kind when engaging with customers.
Some folks think it's expensive, but it is superb quality and the prices fairly and equitably reflect the quality of the ingredients and the labor of the farmers and bakers involved. We know that when we stop by, our tummies and taste buds will be happy, we'll see some great people, and that we're investing in our regional food system in an...
