Maria's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Spring Grove

I am 56 yrs old and worked in the food service industry full time from the age of 15 to the age of 30 and from the age of 30 to 45 part time. I was a bus boy, cook, server and was a manager for 7 of the 1st 15 years. My wife and I visited Maria's on Thursday evening June 27th. There were 2 servers working and about 11 or 12 tables with customers. We were welcomed with a smile and a hello and were told we could sit anywhere. Within a minute and a half one server brought us menus and asked about drinks while the other came to the table with chips and salsa. Very nice and usually customary, she came back with our drinks and took our orders. While we waiting and talking, these 2 young ladies were flying around like they were on roller skates. As I watched I realized that they were doing everything, they got andserved their drinks or each others, bussed and cleaned tables, took take out orders on the phone, took cash for take out orders and distributed them when customer's came to pick up.Having in been in food service for so long I was very impressed as was my wife. When she brought the check I asked her name, her co-workers name and how long they had been doing this. She said her name was Cetalli and her co-workers name was Fernanda and that she had been doing this about 2 years and Fernanda a couple months. I asked her if I could tip both of them because I was so impressed with their team work and service, she thanked me for the compliment and said they split all tips between the 2 of them and didn't do assigned tables because it worked better if they did what needed to be done when it needed to. These 2 young ladies were 2 of the best I've seen in my 30 years of food device. Our bill was $31 and some change and I tipped them $30. The food was very good and reasonably priced and the wife and I will be back and we will spread the word to friends and neighbors and on social media. Waitress we had was a nice younger lady. Sweet but you can tell needed more training. You are open to sit where ever you like we waited 10 min for the menus she came back 10 min later took our drink orders came back 15 min after that to take our order but still hadn't brought our drinks. Food... They have to step it up. We ordered steak fajitas. The portion was ridiculous! And the hot plate was not sizzling when it was brought to our table. That is a staple for when ordering fajitas at a Mexican restaurant they come to your table smoking and sizzling making everyone's mouth water sitting around you. ( not this case) The food was not as hot as I usually like it, I think they are very over priced 2 flautas with rice and beans 9.99??? Make the trip to Round lake Beach where you have a variety of Mexican restaurants where they are fairly priced and taste more authentic and where you will get sizzling hot well portioned fajitas to your table. Their menu needs to make more sense and needs to stand out against...

If your looking for great Mexican food this is the place!!! Have your meal prepared by a few beautiful, smiling ladies! The atmosphere is bright, cozy and very clean! They have booths and tables. As soon as your seated they serve you a basket of warm chips and salsa with a nice bite to it! I had the Enchiladas filled with chicken, covered in green sauce and served with refried beans and rice!
