This was our first time eating at this location and overall I would call it a success. The food was actually pretty decent. I don't eat meat so I can't comment on that but the veggies, sides, and desserts I had were all very good for the most part. It's probably easier to list the things that weren't actually good: potato salad (weird flavor), ziti with melted (not baked :/) cheese on top (again, weird flavor), and the broccoli & cheese (broccoli was average but the cheese sauce was not a creamy, rich sauce like Velveeta, it was more like nacho cheese... yeck). Standouts were the cornbread, candied carrots, macaroni salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, hushpuppies, and from the dessert bar the chocolate pie (kinda like a French silk situation) and the pineapple-carrot cake. Would've liked brown sugar for the sweet potatoes but there didn't seem to be any to be had, so they were sorta bland on their own. On the other hand, the restaurant itself could definitely use a refresh. (The place was jam-packed when we were there, so I feel they can certainly afford it.) The outside needs repainting and the interior could definitely use general refurbishing, deep cleaning, and sprucing up. The restaurant didn't necessarily feel dirty, but I'd say it didn't exactly feel overly clean either. The silverware comes in little paper sleeves, which is nice because it does make you feel like those are sanitary, and there are also gloves available to use for serving yourself at the buffet (you have to really look for them though, I didn't actually even see them until I noticed other patrons had them on). You can also select a new, plastic disposable cup for your drink, although they happened to be out of lids when we went (regular non-disposable cups are available, too, if you rather). Some of the plates didn't seem super clean though (which is kinda par-for-the course with a lot of buffets unfortunately...) and the bathrooms definitely needed attention. To end it off on a good note, I can say the staff as a whole was kind, helpful, and friendly - some more so than others - but our waitress was lovely, as well as the cashier, and also the other waitress working in our section seemed very nice too. **Arrive before 4pm for better pricing (actually I would highly recommend NOT going after 4pm because the dinner prices are seriously exorbitant) but just know that it's not a hidden secret or anything - in fact, expect there to be a pretty long line because absolutely everyone is...
Read moreIt was a wet night deep in the heart of Spring Hill, the wind was howling, and the skies were slightly clouded by the torrential rains earlier. We've been nervous for hours, hoping everything goes well after the prior two trips weren't so pleasant at the Golden. At home, dogs are racing for the hills as usual, and there have been some crazy storms in the last several days, as you might know. We just wanted a good supper for ourselves and the seniors who came along with us (they were visiting from out of town)! I ransacked my house for the lifeline to my phone, the one thing that could help it revitalize and return to normal operation so I could do this review if needed. Anyways, when we finally arrived at the Corral, things were golden and we were hailed by the cashier. She proceeded key us in and then, Boom, said she had to charge my card again because she left off one of the guests by accident. I said that was OK with me, and she said the waitress would catch it. Something about pressing the buttons too fast, and thats just how their newer computers work (I think). There we went. After spending an inordinate amount of time stuffing all that delicious steak and fixings into our stomachs in order to feel better about who we are as human beings, Cecilia approached us all at the table side. She did have great manners and was very pleasent. When I grabbed for my water, she inquired if everything was okay and if we were satisfied with the service so far! Thats when it happened, and the light switch was turned on.... I got straight faced into the conversation, joking, and informed her that no, things weren't going well. I didn't say it loud, just a firm no. I wasn't going to be happy until I was able to hear her response. Meanwhile, we discussed more back and fourth until I was completely entertained, and my fiance' & family probably were embarrassed being around me, but, thats how it goes sometimes. Moral of the story is (if you got this far), it was a really good experience this time, other than I had to pay full price. Some might say I should have been charged more, but I don't think so. We can definitely go again, and we hope to see the manager again for a nice smile. Without her, the experience would not have been the...
Read moreThis is a much smaller location than the one in Tampa. The table service staff was great. We loved Zack. But the food was subpar. It tasted like it was feom last week, with the exception of the steaks and the ham. The crackers for the salads and soup were very stale and tasted like cardboard. For as much as we spent, we should have enjoyed more than the yeast rolls, steak and ham. The desserts were off the chain. They tasted so fresh and delicious. Every thing on the dessert bar was. Many of the foods in the main buffet were not labeled at all or they were labeled incorrectly. So I had to keep flagging down staff to find out what is was. For indtace in the soups section it was labeled chicken soup, chili, and refried beans but it ended up being chicken soup, chili, and clam chowder. Some of the employees have issues though. The man serving the steaks at the grill was a real jerk. I watched him all 3 times I went up to get steak, he served the men large steaks or 2 smaller steaks. But everytime I went up he would give me a very small portion. On my last trip up for steak I asked if I can have two pieces since they were very small and he said he isn't allowed to do that, yet the three men in front of me all received 2 small steaks each. I don't know if it's sexist or gender discrimination but it's something. There is also aome kind of issues going on in the bathrooms. They smelled so bad that all I could do was wash my hands to eat. I refused to use the restroom itself. We will not be back to this location. I would much rather make the drive into Tampa where it's a bigger location...
