Hopes offers a buffet as well as regular sit down service.
I haven't been to hopes in a while, although I drive by there frequently. So this review is based on last few times I was there. They usually have the same Foods every time I go, so the buffet does not change, but very often by the time we get there at 1:30 or 2 in the afternoon the food looks a little dried out or picked through.
Most of the food is tasty and can be quite edible if not highly salted, and over soy sauced. The problem is that most of their food is very salty and over soy sauced.
Their mushrooms are fantastic, and the egg rolls have just the right amount of ginger in them so they don't taste like nutmeg or cinnamon is in the egg roll wrapper. The spring rolls are small and fried. They are also usually cold and may contribute to why I don't feel well after I eat there. Of course, it could be anything in that restaurant that does not make me feel well after we eat there and leave. Which is the main reason to why we haven't been there in so long even after eliminating the suspected Foods from my plate on other trips. I have been getting upset stomach the last few times I've been there, and I can't tell what it's from. All I know is that I seriously do not feel well a couple of hours after eating their food.
The person I go with to lunch there, however does not experience any gastrointestinal distress whatsoever. So, obviously it doesn't impact everyone, but there are also other people from our workplace who go there who experienced the same things that I do after eating there.
The service is really decent. The wait staff is very attentive and takes care of all of our needs, and we usually check out with no problem and they are genuinely very grateful to have us there. I really do enjoy the people that work there and own that restaurant.
I say go there and check it out, and go there with an open mind. The decor is fairly outdated and the building appears to be fairly worn, but they are cleaning all the time the tables are always clean when we go there, and I have never encountered anything dirty about the place whatsoever. It just looks a little worse for wear
If I didn't experience stomach Funk after eating there oh, I would definitely recommend it. I know that my friend who does not experience any issues does recommend it. It's at least...
Read moreThis place used to be great but as of today (8/5/16) it appears a lot has changed, and not for the good.
I walked in a was practically ignored by a young man who reluctantly asked if he could help me. I ask him for details on the buffet carryout, he doesn't say a word and throws a styrofoam container on the counter and walks away, even as i continue to ask for details on the buffet carryout... Whatever
I give up on trying to get any details and just go grab my food. The food looks just as bad as the service but whatver, I am already there so I am eating. I make my selections from the slim pickings of hours old un replenished choices and head to the counter to pay and leave.
The just as abrasive old woman proceeds to weigh my container and tell me my price is $17.00 for a leftover box full of old chinese food. I ask her about it and she tells me that because I have seafood (3 pieces of shrimp) that the per lb price OF EVERYTHING is $5.95 instead of $3.95, I ask her where they state that your price will nearly double if you choose even a single piece of seafood and she proceeds to start yelling and pointing to a hand written 8x8 sign on the wall halfway hidden behind a plant that states the buffet "rules" if all this isn't enough to put me off hopes forever, the food tasted like total trash,...
Read moreI’m not picky and I love lo mein. It is pretty hard to disappoint me with bad lo mein or Any Chinese foods.
The food I ordered tonight was beef lo mein and sesame chicken w fried rice and cream cheese wontons. The lo mein was terrible. Noodles were very bland and not cooked properly. The vegetables were large and hard to eat as well as the cheap beef that were big chunks. I would rather eat small portions of good quality meat and noodles than large portions of bland cheap meat. The wontons were good - not great. let’s be honest even I couldn’t make a bad won ton. They are delicious and easy to make. I hardly ever am this dissatisfied with Chinese take out. I’m very sorry to hopes but the food is awful and needs improvement. Please spend time on sourcing better quality meats and focus on good portioning instead of huge boxes of below...
