HFC! This is the best BBQ I've ever had! I've had Great and Amazing, but this was Spectacular! The Grand Haven location is a little unique. It's located inside the Grand Armory Brewery. It's a nice atmosphere with high ceilings making it feel more open than it is. You can sit inside or out or get Takeout. Your drinks and food come from different locations. The ordering is different than most places too. You can either go up to the food counter to order your food and tell them your table number and they will deliver it. Then you go to bar to order your drinks and ditto. Also the only soda on tap is Draft Root Beer. The other way to order is to use your phone and 2 separate QR's. This brings you to toasttab. Here you order your food, and pay on your phone and they deliver it to your table. Then you have the drink one which also uses toasttab, but this time you open a tab. Select your drinks and they are delivered. When your all done you close tab and your all done.
I ordered the 3 meats and 2 sides ($25). I chose Pulled Pork, Brisket, and Beef Polish Sausage for my meats. For my sides I got Butter Beads and Fried Apples! It also came with Cornbread Waffle. For a drink I got the Draft Root Beer ($2 each). Everything was Outstanding. My taste buds threw a rager! Everything was tender, everything had it own unique and wonderful taste. I don't really know what makes them butter beans, but where have you been my whole life. The Root Beer was top notch, easily worth the price. Also the sauces I tried were Original, Peach Apricot, and Blueberry or Blackberry. The were all very liquid, aka not thick at all. I really liked them all. Sauce isn't needed, but it really does enhance the meats. The cornbread Waffle was the best cornbread I've ever had also, and the Honey butter just plain is heaven on top.
The service for what it is was very good. Drinks came out very quick and food was delivered promptly when it was finished cooking.
Overall am easy 10. I mean 5 star review. Would I return? Lol! Duh! Can we please get a location in Grand Rapids,...
Read moreOur party of 8 ate at the newly opened Spring Lake location. We all loved the interior of the restaurant. It's spacious, open, plenty of light, and a nice view whether you are looking in towards the restaurant or out at the water.
We started with the Burnt Tips appetizer and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was enough for each of us to have 2 to 2.5 peices and it seemed fair for the price.
We wanted to make sure that we had enough food for everyone, so we asked about the portion of meat that comes with the meat platters, specifically about how much ribs would comes as each Meat Option. We were instructed that it was half a rack, and that if we ordered ribs for the Two Meat Platter that we would get two half racks. We decided to NOT order the stand alone full rack of ribs and get it through the Meat Platter instead.
Unfortunately, when our food arrived, we found out that a "half rack" of ribs was actually just two bones with meat, so we ended up with four bones with a little bit of meat.
Our double portion of brisket on our Three Meat platter was less than the amount we received in our Burnt Tips appetizer, and less than the single portion of pulled pork.
Most of us left the restaurant still hungry and agreed that if we do go back we would never ever, for any reason, ever order the platters again.
I read the reviews about not getting much for your money before going but ignored them; I should have payed attention. If you are going to go, I would recommend ordering the meat by the pound and then the sides by themselves, or get one of their other sandwich and salad items. The portions of the individual sides are also larger than the ones included with the platter.
The full side of Tater Tots and the Macaroni and Cheese portions were fair for the price, and the Brisket Sliders that we all shared were one of the highlights of the meal.
My wife and I thought we might go back, just the two of us, but that it was definitely too expensive to bring our entire family. For the price of the food, I'm giving it...
Read moreWe took my son and daughter in law to to the Spring Lake location last night. We were seated right away at 4:30, the table was huge with extra chairs around it so i distributed to the chairs to where they were supposed to be. It did take the waitress about 20 minutes to get our drink order. Non of that bothered me as this is a new location and just recently opened. We placed our order at around 5:00. The waitress came by about a half hour later and said the kitchen was running behind and should be out in a little bit . Another half hour went by and still no food, I could tell the waitress was getting frustrated but no communication with us. Finally at 6:25 I told the waitress that we would like our drink bill to go somewhere else. She walked away, I assumed to talk with her manager, but apparently to get our food and asked if we would like a to go box. My husband and son had brisket/sausage/mac n cheese/tots, my daughter in law had the chicken wrap. They said there's was good. I had ribs(cold) chicken things (tasted like just tossed in franks) green beens(watery no taste) potato salad (had a good taste but must have gotten bottom of the bowl, mostly celery). Also very small portions for the $ you spend. A manager didn't even bother to come by to apologize and maybe try to get us to come back some how. Which is really disappointing as we are boaters and a really great spot to stop and eat. We will be making the trip to Muskegon for dockers, the deck or the b.l.t. Won't be going back there...
