Finally, after 14 years here up on the hill, we have found our neighborhood restaurant. At first I thought this was another chain that had opened up until I walked inside. Friendly staff, warm inviting atmosphere, and the smells of a traditional little italian restaurant. It's not a large place, but big enough that you don't feel cramped, and they also have a little patio outside which I believe is also dog friendly.
After quite a few visits, the menu top to bottom is fantastic. Not a barrage of selections to overwhelm you, but enough that you can easily visit a few times a week and always have something different. So far we've had most of the pasta dishes, which were all filling and phenomenal. Once the chicken in the alfredo was a little bit overdone, but the cheesy sauce of goodness compensated. The sandwiches are also great; fresh tasting deli meat or meatballs on good solid rolls. Salads are fresh and delicious. Last time I asked for the greek salad with no feta (I know, what's a greek salad without greek cheese. Sacrilege!!) and the waitress suggested just replacing the feta with their own mozzarella slices. It was heavenly. Best food substitution advice I've ever received.
Three other points that really sets Carmine's apart, aside from the welcoming atmosphere:
Dollar pizza slices. Feels a lot like Chicago and New York in this way. Big ole' slice of cheesey pie, little greasy on top, large enough to fold in half; just perfect. It's a dollar for in-house consumption only, but trust me, it's a nice place to cool your jets for awhile and relax with some carbs. Stella on tap. No need to elaborate on this. Not sure what channel the radio is always on, but if you grew up around the 70's, you'll recognize every single song. The theme from Rocky even came on once as my delicious spaghetti and meatball plate was delivered. I mean, c'mon. That's pretty cool.
So, yes, I'm a fan that has been there many times. Highly recommend you stop by for some service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy sister was here on vacation and we were going to get something for dinner. I had been to Carmines Pizzeria on Maryland and Sahara and went there a lot. They closed because their location wasn't that great and I don't think the business warranted it. But the food was great and I missed it. I live at Nellis and Stewart and my sister was staying at Reno and Decatur. I thought of Carmines being at Fort Apache and we decided to go there. We walked in around 8. They closed at 9 and were there at 8 and they served us with a pleasant and friendly attitude. In fact we talked till after they closed. I had the cold cut sub to die for and my sister had the Ravioli. Being an Italian from Boston we know good Italian food and the bread was crunchy. 2 pieces of thickly cut mozzarella and quality cold cuts and a garlicky Italian dressing that I asked for on the side. It was so good I would g drive all the way over there every day if I could. We need one near me. I'll keep them open lol. Can't stop raving. My sister had the Ravioli and said it was great. Don't remember the bill but don't care because it was definitely worth it no matter how much. My mouth is watering just talking about it. Loved...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't understand why all the great reviews. I went here tonight and ordered a salad, pizza, wine and dessert. The "Carmine's Chopped Salad" was finely chopped lettuce, tomato, mozzarella and ham. Nothing special. The salad was decent and the blue cheese dressing was good but definitely not worth $10. The "Carmine's Special" pizza was sparsely topped and the crust was perfectly cooked. However, it had almost no flavor. The crust lacked the yeasty flavor of a handmade dough. The Italian sausage was tasteless and the pizza sauce was bland at best. The cheese was also flavorless. I ordered the house Cabernet, which tasted like box wine and at $7.50 for a small glass, it was way overpriced. BTW, don't drink the water. It was worse than my own tap water. To finish the meal, I ordered Zeppole, which I expected to be fluffy little fried donuts with chocolate and raspberry sauce, whipped cream and ice cream. What I received was chewy, fried pizza dough with stale ice cream. The last thing I needed was more pizza dough! The one great thing about Carmines's was Megan, our server. She was very nice. This was our first...
