Last night my mom and I visited Sen of Japan for dinner with a friend. We arrived at 6pm on Saturday and the dining room was already filling up - by the time we left at 7.30pm there was a wait for tables. There is also a sushi counter which offers a special menu and where you can watch a TV with a Golden Knights game or other sporting event of your choosing. Upon arrival we were taken to our table where our friend ordered a whisky which came with a frozen ball of green tea in the glass! I have never seen this before at any restaurant - very cool. We then had salmon nigiri which melted in your mouth and shrimp and vegetable tempura that was some of the best I have ever had. Finally, we finished with the chocolate soufflé, which comes with green tea ice cream (for $9). When you take a bite, be sure to get both the soufflé and the ice cream, which are a perfect combination. Parking is free and plentiful in the shopping center where Sen of Japan is located. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly, if not a little slow since they were very busy and somewhat short-staffed (like many restaurants these days given COVID and labor shortages). I am definitely looking forward to returning to Sen of Japan for their 6 course omakase menu for $60, which seems incredibly reasonable.

This place is off the strip and worth the 20 minute drive. Reservarions for a business dinner of 6 at 7:30pm. They were ready and sat us a bit early, 7:15pm. Rick was our waiter for the night. The restaurant is so clean and not crowded with tables and chairs. Restroom is very clean, male and female separated. Our waiter, RICK, recommended the Rick's Omakase (server choose everything for us). Rick choose every single thing we ate and drank. He served us the Wakatake green saki, So refreshing!!! Then he brought us the Soto saki, also cold, a little better on the taste buds. Rick listened to what we commented on all food and adjusted our menu as needed. We ordered a roll with serrano chiles and the chef placed one piece alone on a plate for my friend. This was done many times to accommodate her weakness for spicy foods. This is the first place I have ever been to and been made to feel like family. The Chef prepared every dish with exactly 6 pieces so everyone one of us tasted a piece. My most fav sushi, besides ALL of them, was the garlic shrimp!! Absolutely loved it here!! Will return and you should make this a must stop if you are ever in the area!!! THANK YOU RICK FOR THE BEST SERVICE!!

First of all, the service was absolutely awful. We could have been out of there at least half an hour earlier. We were spoken to a total of 5 times throughout the entire meal. First to get our drink order, second to see if we were ready to order some food (this was maybe 2 minutes after the first encounter), the third time was about 10 minutes later when she finally came back for us to order, the fourth was after we had long finished our food and were turning our heads looking for her as we were ready to order more (but she was too busy on her phone we could see) she finally came to order our second round, and the last time we saw her was to get the check which came after we were literally looking around for her for twenty minutes. Mind you, the restaurant was nearly empty, these were twenty minutes of us actively looking for her, yet she never stepped onto the dining room floor. We flagged down a busser to ask for the check 15 minutes into the 20 minute wait, which was never received. He just disappeared.

At the end of the day though I am willing to put up with crappy service for the sake of excellent food, and I had read that this was one of, if not the best local Japanese spot in town. I was grossly disappointed. The king crab roll was painfully dry, and while the sweet corn sauce that came with it was good, the other completely overpowered the crab and the sauce was all you could taste. The S.C.O. roll was completely bland and boring. The last roll we got had salmon, tuna, and mango which sounded great, but was not good in practice. We found ourselves taking the mango off because it made the whole thing just off. The mango was dry, flavorless, and gave it an uncomfortable texture. The roll was good once the mango was taken off, but most definitely not $20 good, more like $10. The only thing that was "good" all night was the soy black cod lettuce wraps, but it definitely was not some mind-blowing dish that will have me going back.

It might have just been a bad night, this place has rave reviews, but based off of my experience I will be telling people to NOT go here for sure. Consistency is key, and there is no reason at a place so highly reviewed such an all around awful experience...

This is my second review . First review was 5 stars. Tonight’s experience forever tarnished my view of my favorite sushi restaurant. First let’s set the mood. Per Google you should expect to pay between $50 and $100 per person. Tonight we were at the high end of that range. That range clearly sets the expectation of a higher end experience. This is not an all you can eat experience. For this range you expect everything be great. Well the food was a 5. The service was a 4, ambiance was a 5, “Nickel and diming” extra charges was a 0. As we were paying the bill we noticed a discount of 4% for paying cash. In other words you are charged 4% for paying via credit card. We were also charged $1 for ponzu sauce. McDonalds also charges for extra sauces when ordering chicken McNuggets. There were a few other charges that were odd such as $5.75 for masago (roe) added to salmon skin roll. It just felt very transactional to see all these added charges. The transactional nature of the charges diluted moment. The quality of the food was diminished by the fine print surprise charges. I would rather pay 10% more for a great meal than have to see an abundance of small added charges for sauces, condiments and credit card fees. Dear management. You are missing the objective of world class service. Your customers want great food and an authentic experience. Ease up in the small charges. Don’t become a...

I have an appointment, and when everyone arrived, we quickly started ordering drinks, food, and tissues. However, our waiter may not have a good memory, which caused me to sit for more than ten more minutes without drinking. I need to remind him so that I can get my drink. After two meals, I reminded him again that I haven't given my tissues yet. We ordered a set meal for $70 and six dishes. After an hour, we only received three dishes. At this time, we told our waiter why our dishes haven't been ready for so long, and he said it's normal speed. I told him that we still have appointments to make next, so please help us urge them. At this point, he left. I don't know if he went to urge the meal. After a few minutes, we still haven't received our fourth dish. At this point, we don't have any extra time to wait anymore. We can only regretfully tell our waiter that we're not waiting anymore. We're really hungry, but time is really too late. We'll have to pay for the dishes we've eaten. We need a bill for the price, and after about three or four minutes, he brought our fourth meal, which is a steak, Although we were in a hurry, he had already served the meal and we couldn't say no because it was a waste of food. However, after trying it out, the five of us found that the steak was very salty and cooked very well, and we...
