First off, I love halal guys. I eat there often and I was i happy to know that they have one near my home in Orlando, fl! I frequent this specific location in Va when i come back to visit so it pains me to leave this review.
I visited on Christmas Eve 12/24/2022 and ordered 2 of the regular bowl gyro and chicken shawarma combo. We took our food and ate in the car to be warm and cozy in between shopping.
As i was devouring the bowl I saw something that looked odd that I’ve never seen before…it looked like a roach.
I made sure to remain calm as i sat there examining just to make sure. I got the courage to poke it with my fork and it really gave a unique texture that did not look or feel like it was chicken.
I went and very calmly shared with the manager. He told me that it was ginger that is cooked with the chicken. I didn’t agree with his evaluation so he proceeded to go in the back and come back out with a tub of what looked like minced garlic and tried to tell me it was the ginger they cook with. Then as i was presenting the evidence he put on gloves and grabbed what i believe was a roach and broke it apart and said “see, ginger” and then immediately threw it away.
I didn’t agree with the way he handled the situation, especially allegations of a roach in food. So i didn’t press any further, i left the store and proceeded to make a report with the local health department and FDA.
As i said before, I LOVE halal guys. My family loves halal guys and we will continue to patronize their business, just not this specific location.
I was dissatisfied with the manner in which the manager handled the situation and ultimately not being able to finish the meal i paid for.
I’ve added a photo in the photo section for this store on google. Google this location then click on photos and I’m sure you’ll know exactly what pic this post is...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this location for lunch today.
First off, we chose to dine in because I knew my gyro was going to be messy—just how I like it. The restaurant and bathroom was very clean and comfortable. As with most places like this, the space is small and only has a few tables, but who cares as long as it’s clean?
The staff, both when ordering and during on meal were super kind and attentive. In fact, they gave us a free slice of cheesecake, which was very good. The owner was super kind, and the young folks working the counter did everything possible to make us feel welcome and ensure our food was prepared to our liking. Could not ask for a better experience.
Now for the food, we loved every bite, and there was a lot of it to enjoy. Everything was fresh and tasty. The sauces were spot on, the pita was soft and delicious, the beef gyro was tender and juicy, the fries were cooked to order and seasoned to perfection with creamy white sauce over the top. My wife’s shawarma was equally as delicious and she had plenty to bring home for dinner.
In summary, this may now be my favorite place for...
Read morePros: I'll be lenient and give it 4 starts. I was actually surprised, the beef tasted very good, better than expected so that part was really good. Service was good. Overall not a bad meal. I was full afterwards.
Cons: could certainly use a little more meat in the platter, it was a lot of lettuce and rice but just a scoop less of lettuce and rice and more beef I would have been very happy. Next, charging an extra 0.50 for jalapenos and olives. They do have signs and warn you, but just seem silly. Last, the hot sauce is REALLY HOT...like made me tear and I eat everything spicy. This thing must be made of ghost peppers. It took over the whole dish, I couldn't even enjoy the last part of the food as it was so spicy I was just trying not to cry. Although they do warn you, still why are you using such a spicy sauce? Use something a little more milder and just put a little more on.
Again, certainly not bad, I might give it another shot in the future, but first I have to drink about 46 gallons of ice water so my mouth will...
