Think I've been to the Gott's at the embarcadero, after a night of drinking. I don't think I enjoyed that as much as I enjoyed today. I came out to St Helena specifically to try the original, while most other visitors were probably in the area for wine tastings. Arrived at about 11:30am Saturday, there were only a couple people in line. I ordered the ahi poke tacos, the ahi sandwich, and a regular cheeseburger. While I was waiting for my food, a lot more people showed up and stood in line. Probably waited 10-13 mins for my food to be ready. They call your name, and you get it from their pickup window. They have a number of tables and seats in front of their order window, and also a number of tables behind the restaurant. I sat in front, and ate a portion of my food; the ahi poke tacos, and half of my ahi sandwich. The tacos were nice and crunchy, had some cabbage at the bottom, then a couple strips of ahi, and then a generous slice of avocado. A decent soy/spice sauce on it as well, but not overdressed. I enjoyed them, and it's probably best to eat them right away. The ahi sandwich was also yummy, and one of the best parts was that it didn't have any of the inedible sinew that you sometimes see on cheaper cuts of fish. I left satisfied. Prices are a little high, and this location is not near me at all. But I could see myself visiting once a year, on a sunny day, for a nice drive in the middle of wine country. They also sell soft serve cones and milkshakes, which I might...
Read moreWe were driving from Calistoga, California, to Napa on Thursday, June 15th, and wanted to stop to grab something to eat. Still trying to figure out where to stop as we drove through Saint Helena, I got on Yelp and looked for a burger restaurant. I browsed two or three places, looking at reviews, and decided to navigate to Gotts Roadside based on their solid reviews.
We were not disappointed. The lunch crowd had a full parking lot, but we found a place to park and saw the line. Initially, we watched, rethinking our choice, but the line moved quickly, so we decided to stay. We were in line for roughly eight minutes and then found a place to sit. It is all outdoor dining, but the weather was perfect and enjoyable. Our order was ready very quickly, and the food was terrific. We knew then that this would be a place we would return to when we were in town on future trips.
On Monday, June 19th, we were with family visiting Oakville, and everyone wanted to grab a sandwich for lunch. We highly recommended Gotts and returned during the lunch rush with a party of eight again; the service, speed, accuracy, quality, and price did not...
Read moreNot a quick inexpensive burger fries and shake roadside walk-up diner at all. Very Napa menu, quite extensive, including wine, beer, sushi or sashimi, salmon sandwich, salads. No indoor seating. Picnic table w umbrella seating, high pub chair, long table style seating under cover. Must've been 100+ people eating. Not a quick bite. Expensive and slow. Lunch for 4 was $85. No tip since we ordered at a walk up window. Waited 10-15 minutes for our name to be called when food ready. You take it to your table. Some people took take out orders in big cardboard boxes. We had a long time to observe before our food was ready. Drinks given to you at window. Bar on side of building for more while you wait for food. My $5.99 beef hot dog in a split grilled bun was generous but much like any other good hot dog. Husband looked at my sweet potato fries and said their fry oil needed changing. Very large serving but they were very dark brown. Unexpectedly spicy and sweet. Rest of our party said their food was good. Thought this was a 1950-60's establishment, but menu said established 1999. Go there aware...
