Malt Brothers Brewing — Restaurant in St. John

Jan. 16, 2016 - went for the first time. Was really busy on a Saturday night 7:30 PM-ish...sat at the bar. Katie was our actual server, but we were helped by "Mom - Bev", another bartender/manager, and even a bar-back helped us. We started with a flight of local craft beers and a Moscow Mule cocktail... all were very tasty. We then had an app of crab cakes - which were ... O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G...EVEN better than our other favorite crab cakes ...but we won't give them any press here. Then we ordered Glazed Salmon & a Fat Jack Burger. Alright now let me just say this.. I've eaten a few burgers, alright 100's of burgers... it is the best burger I've ever had... and I ate it all even though I should have stopped 1/2 way through. There was live entertainment - 3 guys playing some old tunes sounded great. The place was pretty full, so there was a bit of a loud roar, but it was a nice lively crowd not too loud for a full restaurant. All in all, was a very good experience, the food was nicely presented and tasted exceptional, as well as more than acceptable portions. I/we will go back for...

Great hushpuppies! However......you can't keep customers with hushpuppies only..a few days ago had hushpuppies and shrimp...shrimp missed the mark by a bunch. The sauce did not compliment shrimp. I'm not sure what it would compliment. Went tonight for the Walleyepalooza which was posted on the website...just said July 1st...I'll bet you already know what I'm writing next! RIGHT! Old!! No walleye.. So, 45 minutes later got my order of wings and you would have thought I was crunching extra crispy potato chips...nope....overcooked (almost burnt) wings....if they had served them sooner they probably would have been ok. Turn to the Nachos.....I wish I could report something good, however, the bad continues....it has a milky colored goo all over it (they called it caiso), I called it insipid milky goo..now, it does come with Pico and jalepenos....getting excited? Dont...5 slices of jalapeños for a big nachos....pico...dagnabit.....NO Pico, just some soggy mushy tomatoes choking to death in a milky goo....do you think I'll be...

First time here, great location (options East of 41 is always nice to have), clean, lots of seating , staff and service was amazing, food was really good, and the beer was tasty (once you figured out what to order, more on that below) And now for the but…. QR Code on table , you scan for beer list, thinking oh fancy scan , can’t wait to see and read about all the brewing magic. And nope… they spent time and effort to have a paperless menu and to brew great beer and the tap list doesn’t include a single tasting note?! Just beer names and alcohol percentages…Yes, they do offer free samples , but no one in charge thought let’s add 4-6 words about how cool our beer is and what it tastes like , a flavor profile, something to this beer list?! It seems like an odd miss (and an unintentional way to have the service staff have to work twice as hard repeating info on the beers or delivering multiple samples.) The no beer info on Scan tap list was really the only miss. The happy friendly staff, service, food and relaxed atmosphere...
