I had an overall terrible experience at Bar 101, and when I told the owner this, the bartender kicked me out. And the owner let him! If you want the full details, read on. I went to Bar 101 around 6 p.m. on a Monday, to watch an NBA playoff game. I was the only customer in the bar (a few were outside on the patio). I asked if they could put the game on one of the TVs, and they of course agreed. One bartender even offered to put it on the big TV and the surround sound, since I was the only customer. Very nice of her. That offer was rescinded when the staff realized there was a game they wanted to watch, so my game was relegated to a TV that, though it was HD, couldn't play HD because it was connected to another TV that wasn't, or something like that. I asked for the game to be put on another HD TV, and a second bartender gave minimal effort towards that and then said that wasn't going to happen. Apparently he needed to get back to his texting and phoning. In the meantime I'd ordered a local beer and it was absolute swill. Schlafly's Hefeweizen tasted like Bud Light that had been left in the sun too long. And they served it to me in a plastic cup. Is this a keg party or a bar? No one asked me how the beer was, so I drank it slowly, getting more surly with every sip. My cup then sat empty for about 20 mins while I waited for someone to offer me another beer. The first bartender had gone out to the patio, and the second was still busy with his phone. I had intended to order dinner and another beer, but the total lack of customer service had changed my mind by this time. A manager-type appeared from the back of the house and offered to buy me a beer. I told him that I didn't want a another beer. The first one tasted awful and the couldn't get my game in HD and I was ready to check out. He says, "I know, we suck," Odd response. The bartender looks up from his phone during this exchange, hears that I'm ready to check out and goes back to his phone. I assume my ticket is with the first bartender (or else the second bartender would have done something by now, right?, so I go outside and ask her if I can check out and she tells me my ticket is with the phoning bartender. So I go inside and ask for my check. I pay and by the time I've folded my change into my pocket the bartender has picked up his phone again. I tell him, "I want you to know I had an overall terrible experience here." He glances up from his phone and says, "Okay." He looks back to his phone and I wait a moment, bewildered by his total lack of care. I said, "The fact that you are so indifferent to that says a lot about you, and your establishment." As I'm walking out I see the manager-type and tell him, "If you're the manager, I want you to know that I had a terrible experience here, and your bartender doesn't care." He says that he's the owner. THE OWNER! I repeat, "Well, as the owner, I want you to know that I had a terrible experience here, and your bartender doesn't care." At this point the bartender raises his voice and says, "You know what, why don't you get out of here? Get off the property right now!" I look at the owner and say, "This is how you let him take care of your customers?" He says nothing and the bartender angrily and loudly says, "Okay, now you're trespassing! You better get out of here!" That's right. I was threatened by the bartender for telling the owner that he's bad at his job, and the owner sat there and let it all happen. So I walked out the door, never to return. Apparently they do a good late night business. So if you want to get wasted on bad beer with a bunch of broey bros and dumb blondes, this is your spot. If you want any sort of quality, go elsewhere. When I left I went to a nearby pub, had a delicious fish and chips and an excellent oatmeal ale from a local brewery. And I got to watch the...
Read morePlease DO NOT patronize “Bar 101” at 1724 S Broadway, St Louis, MO 63104. It was my first time visiting this place on Saturday, 8/16/2015, at around 12:30am, and I did not get to enjoy my time there because I was not allowed admittance into this establishment. To be clear, this is NOT an upscale business by any means, nor was I irate, belligerent, or anything along those lines. It is an average run-of-the-mill bar that looks to provide a decent atmosphere for people to enjoy themselves with drinks, food, and indulge in a game of volleyball. I say “looks” because, while I was invited by word-of-mouth, I did not get to experience the atmosphere this place had to offer. Why? Because of an “apparent” dress code that was enforced. I was wearing a red Cardinals t-shirt, black athletic basketball shorts, and a pair of black Skechers shoes. Please keep in mind…I am coming to enjoy the atmosphere with friends and play volleyball. No one is going to play volleyball in their weekend best…or even their business casual attire. I am dress for the environment I would be in, however, I am not allowed because of an “apparent” dress code. This dress code that was verbally communicated to me by a member of the security detail was NOT posted at the establishment for the public to see. This information is not even cited on the Bar 101 website (I know because I have taken dated screenprints of their website). Not only is this information not listed anywhere for the public to view, the end time for playing volleyball at the establishment is not listed on the website list either. So, there would be no reason to deny access based on my attire because no one working at this place would know (just by looking) if I was prepared to play volleyball or not. This in itself is discrimination and grounds to pursue a lawsuit against this establishment. This is my first and last time for a visit here. I would have hated for someone out of town to come to our city and pick this place to hangout only to be turned away because of something they were wearing that was actually...
Read moreThis place is not fun. They run deals for blues games; but, do not have their TVs working. They run volleyball leagues; but, are extremely disorganized. They charge cover at the door; but, harass you on the way in (if you get in). For example, one time they barred entry to one of my friends because he was "too drunk" and they could tell by observing the vibration of his eyes. After explaining that he is half blind and showing him his non-driver state license, they still wouldn't let him in! A drunk monkey could run this bar (and perhaps one is). 1/5 would not recommend. Go to a real...
