Was it more EPIC than Epic Burger? Find out below.
While at Shameless Grounds, I decided I wanted to get some food from a local place. Pulled up Yelp and see what was nearby. I settled on this place by name alone. Boy, was it a good choice!
I had to park a bit away from the place, but it was nice and the walk was enjoyable. Upon entering, I glanced at the menu and did a double take on the prices. About everything on the menu was over $10, but you can order pizza by the slice. Those are about $3-4 a piece. A tad high for my tastes, but I figured why not… I don’t drive to St. Louis every day.
So I ordered a Chicken Parmesan Sandwich and the cashier was pretty cool. They give you a playing card instead of a number, which I have seen before and is always pretty cool. Food took a typical time to come out and it was pretty good. I got homemade chips with mine and those were good. The sandwich was… Epically good. Smaller than I expected at the price they changed, but it made up for it in flavor.
If you are eating and fancy a drink, there is a bar next door called International Tap House (iTap for short). Epic offers food services to the bar, which is great because who doesn’t get hungry while drinking? They also have a few seats outside that has a window to which they can serve you by. Next time, I want to sit there. You can see this spot in the photos below.
So, yes, this place was way more EPIC than Epic Burger. I would say it was twice as delicious. This place I would revisit. Epic Burger,...
Read moreThe pizza here is decent and the specialties of the day are usually pretty good and creative. That's the end of the good stuff.
This place has a ridiculous pricing structure and a baffling refusal to take things off of a specialty pizza and charge the same price. You want a pizza with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, onions, and some other stuff? $25. You want just the sausage and pepperoni on the pizza? $26 before tax. I asked what toppings cost to put on a pizza. "It depends" "on what?" "Which topping." "Yeah, but which ones cost which (pointing to the menu where it says $3 to add a topping)" "Um, just have to add it to the order and see. Yeah, that menu is our old one."
What. Is. Happening. Here.
I get it if you charge like $6 for a single big slice, that's fine. But the pizza is definitely not worth $30+ for a 3 topping pizza, especially when there are loads of menu items with just as many if not more 'premium' toppings that ostensibly take more effort to prepare and cost $5-10 less. So unless you want exactly the pizzas on their menu, expect to pay way more than you should.
The staff is regularly unhelpful and not particularly friendly, and the wait is much longer than it should be (20 minutes) for things like salads. Pass on this place unless you're drunk and need carbs in the next...
Read moreThis location is such a disappointment because on one hand, the food and service could be so good, but it is too inconsistent to be what it could be. To say it plainly - The manager is a jerk. Instead of saying "hello", asking "how are you", or even asking what you'd like to order... he stares at you like you're wasting his time - completely silent. Communicating with him can only be described as an other worldly experience. All without cracking a smile! Restaurants can get famous two ways, good experience or bad. Epic pizza is getting famous for being awful because of this rude old man. If the owner cared about his business he'd have someone with a kind personality run their store. I also heard him being rude and short with employees who work there, which was uncalled for considering how little effort he puts into customer service. The food has also been inconsistent (ordering double toppings but not receiving any extra/visibly burned food being brought out to the table) but is generally good if they aren't being stingy with toppings that day. The photo is a slice they gave me because they burned the first slice... the counter person said they didn't have more pep slices, so they'd just put pepperoni on a pre-made cheese slice and it turned out... less than...
