I enjoy Park Avenue Coffee. My favor coffee that they offer is the Grog, and I get it with oat milk. This is a fantastic combination, and I recommend it. I have also had the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee with oat milk. This is another good flavor. Their coffee definitely beats Starbucks.
As for their famed gooey butter cakes, I will say that they are solid! As a gooey butter cake and baked goods lover, I have certainly had better gooey butter cakes. The slices are a little thin for me, but that is my only true complaint. I prefer the various Schucks Bakery gooey butter cake flavors. I have had the Mom's Traditional Gooey Butter Cake, and I had the Red Velvet Gooey Butter Cake for my birthday yesterday. I like red velvet, and I actually had a generous serving of red velvet cake from Schnucks at my birthday party at lunch as well. What a wonderfully unhealth day full of red velvet flavor! The Red Velvet Gooey Butter Cake slice had a nice sweetness, and the home-made cream cheese icing complemented it nicely. This ice had a nice sweetness. I will continue to compare cream cheese icings to the bad cream cheese icing that I had at Crumbl Cookies on their Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cookie, which was literally just plain, unsweetened cream cheese. Moreover, the Ghirardelli chocolate gooey butter crust was not overwhelming.
Finally, I have had their Cranberry Orange Muffin, which...
Read moreBefore visiting St. Louis, I ran a search on Butter Cake and this came up as one of the top recommendations. The store is quite cute, located across the street from Lafayette Park, and in a neighborhood of brick buildings. (I'm from the West Coast where Brick construction is a rarity) I ordered a slice of the Red Velvet and Original butter cake to go. Price was not too bad, and the portion sizes were about 2.5"x3". The Red Velvet butter cake was a little disappointing as there was no crunchy buttery crust, but instead some thick and gooey chocolate fudge bottom and didn't taste much like anything, except maybe an undercooked chocolate brownie. The original butter cake was much better, and had the flavor balance between the tangy cream cheese and richness of butter. However, I do wish it had a longer time to bake, to get the edges really crunchy in texture. Service was just okay, the two baristas might have just been totally drained since I did visit on one of the hottest days of the year in the middle of a drought and heat wave. Overall, would definitely visit this place again. Next time, I'll order a beverage with my butter cake and have it in their back courtyard area, which had nice seating arrangements and looked like a great place to catch up with a friend, or bring a date to after seeing a movie. They also have gooey butter cake...
