Great spot for food and drinks - I’ve enjoyed those aspects of Platypus in the past. However, my first experience attending a live band performance on 6/3/25 (New Constellations) was extremely disappointing.
The music room was packed to capacity, and the temperature per the thermostat on the wall exceeded 80 degrees. It was sweltering. When I politely asked the staff member who was in charge of the room temperature about adjusting the thermostat, I was met with a dismissive response: “That’s as cool as it’s going to get.” Clearly, they had the ability to adjust it but chose not to - a baffling decision for a venue charging $13 for a tiny mocktail. Three of our friends left early due to the heat, and my husband couldn’t tolerate staying in the performance room either.
To make matters worse, the sound technician at this establishment repeatedly fumbled the band’s set, and the layout of the performance space made it impossible to see the musicians unless you were in the very front. There’s no raised stage, and a group of tall men blocked the view for everyone behind them - especially frustrating for those of us under 5'7".
I won’t be returning to Platypus for a live band performance. Perhaps a DJ set would work better in that space, but it’s absolutely not suited for live music in its...
Read moreCame by the other day for a concert. The patio is large and private with plenty of room to sit and relax between sets. The drinks were great and reasonably priced. We didn’t have any food but it all looked and smelled amazing. Bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. The bar staff was very pleasant and quick. It’s towards the “outskirts” of the main places in the Grove so parking was very easy.
The downside is that it gets VERY hot and stagnant in the concert room because there isn’t much ventilation. The tickets were bought at the door so I’m not sure if they keep track of how many they are able to sell for the space. It was packed to the brim. Still a great time with some breaks for fresh air, but something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to...

The bartenders are clearly passionate about their craft putting in real work behind the bar to mix up quality cocktails. One standout is Dani, whose energy and genuine warmth are a breath of fresh air. She adds a personal touch that makes the experience feel welcoming and memorable.
