What a fantastic experience! Today I had a wonderful time today at the Steak 'n Shake at Kingshighway and Chippewa. There was a time in my life when any Steak 'n Shake location would bring a smile to my face, before tragically nearly every location in the St Louis area was closed, this specific location included. What I found today has brought that feeling back that I lost so long ago, the feeling of joy biting into a freshly prepared Double with cheese and all the fixings.
My day began as a lazy Saturday, watching Mizzou lose in such a way that could bring no pride to such a failed program, as they usually do every Saturday in the Fall. My roommate invited me to join him at the gym early this afternoon, a common occurrence on days when I am not scheduled to work nor have any classes. We arrived at the Planet Fitness next door to this Steak 'n Shake, which I presume used to be a Shop n Save, and worked out as we usually do. My roommate is a Black Card holder, entitling him to bring a single guest every time he visits, which is almost exclusively myself. While my roommate hit the bench press, I decided that today would be the perfect opportunity for a Leg Day. Remember guys: Don't Skip Leg Day! The workout was thoroughly exhausting, and the two of us were ready to load up on some burgers after such a great session.
We pulled up to the Drive Through, and what a sight to behold: there was no line! That's right, not a single car was a head of us at 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, something I certainly would never expect from the nearby location on Hampton. Upon ordering were were given the unfortunate news that the greatest deal Steak 'n Shake has ever offered, a double cheeseburger and small shake for $4, was no longer available :( . Nevertheless, Steak 'n Shake still has a plethora of deals, and we each ordered a burger meal from the 4 for $4 menu. The ordering process was swift and simple, with staff very attentive to our needs, asking us to clarify which toppings we desired on our burgers. Of course I love a full LTOP on all of my burgers, my roommate was sure to order his without any pickles, adding barbecue sauce to his burger. I am always hesitant to partake in any fast food barbeque sauce; I have always been blessed living in one of America's great barbeque cities, never having any desire for what I can only assume would be horrendously disappointing sauce, though my roommate seemed to enjoy it. We pulled through to the window, again with no cars in front of us, and within only a few minutes a friendly young man served us our food.
Now comes the juicy part, and yes I am taking about the burgers. Where do I begin? Such pleasant flavors were simply oozing out of our burgers, cooked to perfection, and served exactly as we wanted. To my surprise, our fries were crispy and HOT, something I have come to never expect from any fast food joint, but this store really brought their A game today and made some fantastic fries. So good was our food, that we dove in immediately, devouring our food before arriving home. I can say without a doubt, this was the best fast food I have had in recent memory.
In summation, my experience today at the Steak 'n Shake was divine, such that I will have to reconsider my standard of judgement of nearly all other fast food restaurants. I cannot imagine how anyone would have anything negative to say about this establishment.
I would like to clarify to anyone considering eating here, that within the last few month, this Steak 'n Shake location has re-opened under new management. I can personally guarantee any reviews older than Summer of 2020 are no longer accurate, as these reviews were under previous management, and should be treated as if they are for a different (now closed) restaurant. I would implore the Google team to remove these old reviews, as they are tarnishing the fantastic restaurant's reputation. I can personally vouch for this new management's ability to deliver high quality food, quickly and with a smile. 5 stars out of 5 will dine again!
Be sure to smash that...
Read moreOn May 25, 2019 at approximately 3:45 PM, I went to Steak ‘n Shake (located at 4640 Chippewa St. 63116) and ordered a side-by-side strawberry and banana shake. Once I received my order I noticed that it was a plastic 4 inch long substance at the bottom of my shake. I then returned the shake back to Steak ‘n Shake to report it to the manager Shirley V. Once I showed her this plastic Strip that I almost swallowed and she immediately became very upset claiming that her restaurant don’t have any plastic substances behind the Counter. She then asked if I wanted to write a incident report. I stated that I wanted to get the incident document. At that point her anger seems to grow and then said stated that the company wasn’t going to do anything about the incident but ask me if I was OK. I tell her that that was fine and then she seems to get even more frustrated and asked me, “Are you hurt? Are you in pain? Are you going to the hospital?” She questioned me with a very condescending, aggressive and disrespectful tone. I asked her for a copy of the incident report, but she refused to give me a copy of the report and stated that she was not allowed to give it to me that it was company policy. She continued claiming that someone was going to contact me, Possibly their lawyers. I ask her again if I could have a copy of the report with my identifying information in it. She said it again with a louder and more aggressive tone that no the document with steak and shakes property and she was not going to allow me to have a copy or take a picture of it. Shirley V who is the manager was extremely rude and disrespectful to a customer that patronized this particular Steak ‘n Shake often. I truly value customer service because you never know what a customer had to face before they came into your presence and a pleasant experience could help brighten up...
Read moreMy food took long enough to make considering i ordered through the app to get my order started asap. I arrived and checked in, still not ready. When I was finally given my food I was missing my shake so I asked where that was and was told it was being made. I did check my order to make sure everything that I did order was in the bag. But when I got home my burger was dry and the bun was hard to eat my fiancee's burger was not made the way he ordered it, as in there were no tomatoes, barely any mayonaise and one tiny piece of lettuce that was wilted and rotten, definitely going bad, it was almost molded. As well as not safe to eat. For the prices of fast food nowadays I think that we as the customers deserve our orders to be accurate, good quality, and arrives hot and always the way we order it. Especially nowadays since we are forced into using apps and kiosks to order. I think that we shouldn't have to worry about checking our orders before we leave the restaurant or store! If an order is put in through an app or any other way besides at the front counter, then the staff should go above and beyond to make sure there are no and I mean absolutely No mistakes! I definitely don't believe that these new age staff members at fast food restaurants should be making $15 or more an hour at all, and it seems like nobody wants to work at all anymore. And that's what they said they wanted to continue working. I think there should be more training involved and things should go back to the way it was...
