Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - "Great" World's Fair Donuts: Where every bite is a celebration of donut...
Read moreI went World Fair Donut numerous times because I like their glazed donut. The only problem until now is the brown hair senior citizen lady is very rude and mean. It doesn’t matter how rude she treated me, I always remain calm and nice to her. One time I came in for three dozen of a mixture of three types of donuts (glaze, chocolate glaze, and cream top glaze). She got mad and told me that I should call ahead with that many order. I didn’t think 3 dozen is that many? Another time, she didn’t like that I ordered two dozen of glazed, I should mix them up and save the glaze for other customers. A couple times she just ignores me standing there and waiting to place an order. She was busy talking and serving someone she knew grew up in her neighborhood that entered the store after me. This morning was the last draw. I will never go back there again and had to let people know my experience. The shop opened at 4 am. I got there at 4:30 am. They only have a few donuts for sale and there were no glaze donuts. I told her that I like the glaze. She told me to come back in 30 minutes and she will have more donuts. Where am I going to go at 4 in the morning so I just waited in the car? Half an hour later, I went into the shop and she said: “here you go three dozens, $21 and I mixed up for you” and handed me three boxes. I told her that I never wanted them mixed up with different types; I just wanted the glaze and chocolate glaze. She got upset and start removing the donuts from the boxes with her bared hand (no gloves, napkins.), placing the donuts back in the tray for sale. Thank goodness that she did refill my boxes with the glaze using waxed paper to pick up the donuts. I took the donuts to work and everyone told me that they tasted different. Co-workers could not believe that they were from the World Fair Donuts. The glaze donuts were not airy and fluffy as we were used to coming from the World Fair. They were a bit dense and dried. Everyone was asking me if the donuts were sold to me fresh and they could have been leftovers. I told my co-workers that I waited for half an hour for them so how can they be leftover. I’ll never know the truth about what...
Read moreWe really wanted donuts on our recent trip to St. Louis, and a google search for "best donuts in St. Louis" led us to World's Fair. Alton Brown said they were the best around, and who am I to argue with Alton Brown?? We could not believe the prices (just under $7 for a full mixed dozen). We tried frosted long johns, basic glazed, and frosted cake donuts, but the best by far were the buttermilk cake. Depending on where you're from, you might know them as sour cream donuts. They're very similar. They were the best I've ever had, anywhere. And I really, really love donuts! The shop itself is small, the staff was friendly, and the location is really nice (near the botanical garden in a cute little neighborhood with fun local shops nearby). The place was not over-crowded, but there was a steady stream of customers the entire time we were there. One customer would leave, and someone new would immediately walk in the door. They seemed to have a loyal customer base, b/c you could tell some of them were regulars that the owner recognized. Please stop in and give them your business, and for heaven's sake, do yourself a favor and try those buttermilk cake donuts. The other stuff was fine, but those were the star.
Editing to add that it is cash only, so...
