I donât usually write reviewsâespecially not bad ones. I donât even enjoy writing negative reviews. But after what happened at Coco Cafe the day before Motherâs Day, I felt like I had to speak up. I brought my family in hoping to give my mom a special experience, and it turned into the worst dining experience Iâve ever had. We placed our order in two roundsâhalf the table ordered first, and the other half (including my mom and me) ordered shortly after. The first half got their meals, so we expected a short wait for ours. At one point, the waitress said, âWeâre a bit busy right now, but weâll surely get your order to you.â We were understanding at first. But then 30 minutes passed, then 40, then nearly an hour. Still no food. No one checked in, no one communicated anything. So I finally stopped a different waitress and said, âHey, weâve been waiting a long timeâwhatâs going on with our food?â She said sheâd check, and when she came back, she told me, âYouâre not even in the system.â I was likeâwhat? How are we not in the system when we already got our drinks? I showed her the receipt to prove we paid. She went back again, came out and said, âOh, you ordered this, this, and this,â confirming our order as if we never existed until that moment. Turns out, our food had never even been started. If I hadnât spoken up, we would have just sat there endlessly waiting while they had no intention of serving us. Only after we brought it up did they begin cooking our meals. They eventually brought our food out and apologized, blaming it on a ânew system.â But why wait until after we chased you down to mention that? Why didnât anyone check in, give us a heads-up, or communicate anything? The entire dining experience took three hours. Three hours at a restaurant is not something I ever expected or wanted. I thought weâd be there for maybe one to two hours maxânot sitting around that long, confused and frustrated. It felt like a huge waste of time. We were all just waiting for food that was never coming, and it made no senseâespecially since only half the table got their meals. They gave us a complimentary dessert, which I appreciate, but it didnât make up for the time lost or the way we were treated. It was an ungrateful experience from start to finish. I was hoping to create a special memory for my mom, but instead we left feeling overlooked and disappointed. Iâm honestly upset that I chose this restaurant. I thought it was going to be a good choiceâand I regret it deeply. If I could give this as a zero-star review, I would. I will not be...
Read moreI fear this place is wildly overrated. My friend and I went and I was waiting at the sign âplease wait to be seatedâ. No one came to ask my name or see what I needed. two more groups lined up behind me, and we were told it was a wait from one female. The third group asked a waiter (manager?) for a table and he sat them right away. We were like uhhh hello weâve been here waiting?!? they got up, so we sat but it was Just an overall bizarre way to begin. Why is there no hostess and why is there no one creating a list? I guess make a reservation if you want to come here but itâs literally not worth it.
Once we were seated it took forever for us to get napkins and silverware. We never got water, the lattes came out lukewarm, and the hungry man wrap was good but they should probably serve it with home fries or SOMETHING? We then asked about the desserts which is what they seem to be known for, and thereâs no dessert menu. She said desserts change daily so she said to get up and look at the case in the back of the restaurant. Again, kind of weird. We asked for Dubai chocolate bars thinking theyâd come on a plate and we could eat them there but they gave us bars wrapped up like to-go which was again bizarre. Then, the chocolate bars which were SO SMALL were FIFTEEN DOLLARS EACH!!! We had no idea and were appalled.
Maybe if you prefer ambiance over food and service come here, but I prefer good food and service over atmosphere anyday. There were also young kids and a childâs birthday party going on and it felt very...
Read moreCame from New Haven County to meet up with my girls from New York since Stamford is always a great mid-point. We decided to try Cococafe, drawn in by its cozy atmosphere and cute aesthetic. While the ambiance and attentive service were definite highlights, the food and drinks were a mixed experience. My salad was missing key ingredients like tzatziki and couscous, and the beef shawarma wrap, though decent, felt unbalanced with too much meat and no side especially for its $16 price tag. The chai latte was overwhelmingly milky with barely any chai flavor, and the red velvet latte was underwhelming, tasting just like a regular usweetened latte with an unclear reason for its color. Their "famous" Dubai chocolate was decent but didnât quite compare to the authentic Dubai chocolate Iâve had in Turkey. On a brighter note, the tiramisu was a standout, and the red velvet cake was enjoyable. Our wait time was very fast, and I later noticed that while the website doesnât make it obvious, you can call to make reservations itâs just listed at the bottom. One thing that stood out was how popular the spot was for little girlsâ birthday celebrations; there were quite a few happening while we were there, which added to the playful charm of the space. Despite some inconsistencies, the friendly service, comfortable seating, and cute atmosphere make it a solid choice, especially for a fun, Instagram-worthy outing. Truthfully, I'd rate it a 3.5, but Iâm giving it a 4. Check out the photos...
