TL;DR: The DiMare Pastry Shop, a family-owned bakery, offers a range of pastries and custom cakes, but the cookies left much to be desired. If you prefer bolder, sweeter cookies, this may not be the place for you.
Full Review: The DiMare Pastry Shop, established in 1976 and family-owned, boasts a selection of muffins, danishes, and other breakfast pastries, alongside custom cakes. However, my experience with their cookies was underwhelming. While the bakery may have history, talent, and a wide array of options, I can only base my review on the cookies I sampled, and they were disappointing.
The cookies reminded me of the tins of butter cookies often found in childhood, which frequently ended up filled with sewing supplies rather than cookies. Those cookies were usually subtle, understated, or simply bland. The DiMare Pastry Shop's cookies seemed to follow this tradition, lacking the sharpness, sweetness, and general taste that I expect from a good cookie.
Despite being a family-run business with a rich history, the cookies I tried were dry and lacking in depth. They failed to deliver a memorable or satisfying experience. While butter cookies and more sophisticated sweets can be challenging to perfect, the execution here was not up to par.
I understand that some people might enjoy this style of cookie, but for those who prefer the bolder, sweeter flavors of Insomnia Cookies, Crumbl Cookies, Costco cookies, or even mass-produced staples like Chips Ahoy and Oreos, DiMare's offerings might not hit the mark. While I can't speak to their other pastries and custom cakes, the cookies alone didn't inspire confidence in their overall quality.
While DiMare Pastry Shop may be beloved by many, based on my experience with their cookies, I found them lacking in flavor and enjoyment. Perhaps someday I'll try their other sweets, but for now, it's not high on my list. If you're in the mood for a more subtle, traditional cookie, you might still find something to enjoy here. Otherwise, those with a sweet tooth might want to...
Read moreUsually always come here and the sweetest people help us out, but completely different scenario recently. I got a cake delivered to me about a month ago and the guy was extremely rude. I let it slide and didnât say anything, but my daughter and I went to order a cake and the girl that helped us was extremely rude. We walked in and she was already upset about helping someone over the phone so she made the other girl go âdeal with itâ like she said, then while helping us she was nothing but rude trying to rush us with our order, mind you we were the only people in the shop so it wasnât because she had other people to attend to she clearly just didnât want to. If we asked her a question she would sigh and give us attitude, when we tried figuring out what kind of cake we wanted she responded for us like she was the one ordering the cake? We finished our order and she hadnât asked us about pick up time or if we wanted it delivered so we asked if we could get it delivered and she rolled her eyes looked at us like we had just asked her to do the hardest task possible. We asked her if delivery wasnât an option since she was just staring at us and she just responded giving us attitude once again saying that it would be an additional charge. We knew delivery was going to be an additional charge, and we had no problem paying for it but her attitude was completely uncalled for so we didnât continue with our order. Her attitude was horrible and after this experience we definitely wonât be going back. I tried calling to make the complaint because my daughter and I were very aggravated in the moment and didnât want to cause a scene and they picked up the phone but nobody said anything. If that girl doesnât have the patience to help customers she shouldnât be working in customer service. I wish we wouldâve gotten her name so we could put it on here, but unfortunately in the heat of the moment...
Read moreDiMare's made our wedding cake and oh my GOSH it was AMAZING!!! Originally, choosing our wedding cake was not a priority for my husband and I - we never really liked the cakes at weddings we'd been to and we thought it was just an extra cost in the already expensive wedding market. Boy were we wrong!!! That thought COMPLETELY changed when we walked into DiMare's for our cake tasting!! They gave us 15 legit pieces of cake to try - not little bites, actual pieces of cake!! By the time we finished our tasting, we were struggling to decide between a few flavors, so Sabrina sent us home with three slices to try after dinner that night! Truly incredible service. It was clear from the warmth of the staff that they wanted us to feel like we were part of the family and feel comfortable in our decisions. Sabrina took her time going over different decoration options with us, how we could change the cake flavors, and she made sure we were happy with our choices before we walked out the door. The double temptation cake is hands down THE BEST CAKE WE HAVE EVER HAD!!! DiMare's helped make something we were not very excited about into one of the highlights of our wedding day. Our guests all loved the cake and couldn't believe there was cheesecake in it too!! Multiple people asked for second and even third slices!! The process was so smooth and the presentation was perfect. Sabrina was able to find these gorgeous edible sunflowers on our cake which really pulled our wedding day vision together. 12/10 for DiMare's!! Can't wait to have our wedding cake again...
