We’ve passed this restaurant time after time after time and never thought about ordering pizza from there. We LOVE pizza and are always on the lookout for great pizza spots. This particular day we wanted pizza but didn’t want to get it from any of our familiar spots, so we looked at Google Reviews to see what were the highest rated pizza restaurants in Stamford. We saw that Sorrento’s had a good rating and favorable comments. We decided to go for it and give it a try. We knew we wanted to get pepperoni but THEN we saw their Mike’s Hot Honey Pepperoni pizza and said, we have to try that. We ended up ordering a large Mike’s hot honey pepperoni pizza and fried calamari. One issue we had is that their menu on the website doesn’t have prices. I don’t know if that is a new thing now, but I see a lot of restaurants that don’t post their prices anymore. As a customer, I love to know exactly how much I’m going to be paying for my order. I ordered the pizza first and asked the price. They told me $22. Then I ordered the calamari. I asked for the total and they told me $42 dollars. I almost choked!!! Lol!! Dang!!! How much is calamari? When did an order of calamari become almost $20 (plus tax). Apparently, fried calamari is going for that much. We wanted calamari, so we went through with the order. They were pleasant at the restaurant and said they didn’t have any menus left. We brought our order home. Taking the calamari out of the bag, I was a little disappointed that they didn’t make a vent in the container. I also feel like a little more calamari could have been added. It felt a bit skimpy. After paying that much, I wanted more, and crunchy calamari. They were soggy. I crisped them up for 4 minutes in the air fryer. As for the taste, they were, good. I love that the coating is light, but they are very lightly seasoned. I will tell you what was amazing though. Their marinara sauce is absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed dipping the calamari into the marinara. They worked extremely well together. As for the pizza, it was delicious!!! It looked smaller than a normal large pizza but it was very tasty. Sauce on pizza is my thing. I feel sauce can make or break a pizza. This restaurant can make some sauce. The taste of honey is subtle but it is present. I couldn’t really taste the heat. We love hot oil pizza, so we were looking forward to tasting the hot oil flavor. We couldn’t taste it, but that being said, we were still happy with the flavor. Would we order from Sorrento’s again? Absolutely!!! Would we order the Mike’s Hot Honey Pizza again? I don’t think so. I don’t think I need the honey flavor with the flavor of pepperoni. We will definitely try their straight pepperoni pizza. I know it’s going to be great. If you’re going to order calamari, ask them to make a hole in the cover of the container. Hope this...
Read moreWe have been patronizing Sorrento Restaurant for all of its 25 years existence. On Saturday night, October 8th, we brought friends who never had been there. We were quite disappointed with our dinner and with the manner in which we were treated as customers. The so-called tortellini soup consisted of a few pieces of pasta floating in a colorless and tasteless broth. No garnishing, no flavor. The pasta dishes were so-so. Then, at about 8:30 pm ( we had been in the restaurant for about 90 minutes) the place was empty except for us - and the waiter, (a large-sized young man) began shuffling around and actually took out a vacuum on the floors. In other words we were, noisily, being kicked out of the place with no subtleties at all. At 8:30 on a Saturday? In addition, when it came time to pay the bill we handed over to the waiter (this same young man) cash for the total amount, plus what we thought was a generous (under the circumstances) tip - telling the waiter no change was required. Well, we had miscalculated and he (this same waiter) returned our change by plopping down the money, on top of the bill which he made sure we saw - a silent way of telling us our "tip" was "insufficient." No question, no comment - just rudely dropping the cash and walking away. Now, we realize this is not the Four Seasons but we were appalled at this sort of treatment. It was obvious to the staff that we were preparing to leave - even at that early hour - but they showed us the door, so to speak, with the cleaning-up, the vacuum, and their total lack of concern for our presence. We will not be returning to Sorrento - and will, in the future, patronize other local pizzerias. ...
