Came here for my daughter birthday. She’s vegetarian and requested it . As a family we were excited to try something new . I told our waiter upon arrival that we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday. Towards the end of our dinner I noticed our waiter come out singing happy birthday to another lady along with dessert. I just knew we would be next . Unfortunately as the only guest that was people of color in the restaurant I couldn’t help but to feel we were looked over .
As we looked on and watched the other guest birthday get acknowledgment I knew that although this was a “ black owned” establishment we weren’t wanted there .
I spoke to Elsa to inquire why didn’t we get the same birthday acknowledgment as the other guest . I wanted to make sure I wasn’t assuming bias. Elsa said she was the owner and I must say NEVER IN MY LIFE have i found a manager so rude . I was taking back by her vulgar. She wasn’t accommodating or apologetic. She said we don’t owe you anything!!! . Again I was shocked!. As it was my daughter 14th birthday I had to let this go on that day but I won’t settle until change is made .
I don’t want another there person of color to ever experience what my family and I did . On top of a horrible encounter with Elsa she charged my card twice ! . When I mentioned it to her she once again was nonchalant and EXTREMELY RUDE .
If you are a person of color you might not want to come here ( in my opinion) . They cater …....
Read moreElsa - I am glad that you are moving and your waiter was not the problem it was you and your tone. Had you not called back barking at me as if I were a child and you in need of a kennel, I would have returned and continued with the purchase. As I mentioned patience is key, but not a virtue that everyone was gifted with. The gift card was already used, as I purchased it for a friend and I was stating that had I known how difficult the parking was I would not have done so. If you would still like to reaccredit a used gift card I can connect with you via email. Elsa I am not denoting the culture of poverty, otherwise I would not have chosen to patron, but I would be remiss if I failed to speak the truth for fellow patrons and sadly you refuse to do so concerning this fact. As a fellow business owner I believe in taking charge of situations, however when I spoke to you your abrupt curtness bewildered me - I will follow up with your post reply which was a long winded speech fueled with narcissistic, prideful and misleading rebuttal. Elsa you lack humility and as a fellow Ethiopian we both know that there is value in being able to take suggestions well. Next time slow down and LISTEN to your patron my dear before you type and bark your way out of business. Wolete Selassie - Daughter...
Read moreLiterally my favorite place!! I was so excited to go back today at their new location after not having Ethiopian food for nearly a year. The new location right in the heart of downtown is beautiful and has ample parking available. The inside is updated and very welcoming.
I would be remiss if I didn’t speak on the delicious food- which has not changed in flavor since moving locations. You can feel the love poured in to the food. I will say it’s the consistency of the taste in food and the great service we always receive from server Ricardo. Elsa is always so kind and polite- making herself available to always interact with her customers. There is also something about having family work together in a restaurant that brings such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Lastly, I will say that if multiples spices, curry and stews is not your thing this might not be the place for you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but after reading some of the negative reviews below and being a long time customer of this establishment I find the allegations extremely hard to swallow!
Teff you have found your way to my heart through my belly ❤️
Ps. Please don’t ever...
