If you’re looking for bold, comforting flavors with a touch of home-style Peruvian tradition, Acuario Restaurant located in Stamford is a hidden gem that deserves your attention. It’s perfect for romantic date nights, solo dinner escapes, or casual group outings this spot works for every kind of vibe.
We ordered the classic Lomo Saltado with beef a beloved staple in Peruvian cuisine that beautifully reflects the country’s fusion of Chinese and South American culinary traditions (thanks to the influence of chifa cuisine). The dish is a stir-fry of marinated strips of beef, onions, and tomatoes, cooked over high heat with soy sauce and vinegar, which creates a bold umami depth balanced by a subtle tang. The tomatoes break down just enough to add a touch of sweetness and richness to the sauce, while the onions bring in that perfect bite.
Traditionally, the fries are tossed directly into the stir-fry, soaking up the sauce, but since I love mine extra crispy, I asked for them on the side. They came out golden and crunchy, and dipping them into the savory sauce was divine. The dish was served with a side of fluffy white rice to soak up all the flavorful juices simple, but absolutely essential.
We were also welcomed with fresh bread and a side of their aji verde, a creamy Peruvian green sauce made with cilantro, aji amarillo, and lime. It was zesty, herbaceous, and addictive, we were tempted to ask for more.
Service was warm, attentive, and never rushed, which made the experience feel even more special. You can tell they take pride not just in their food, but in creating a space that feels like home. Highly...
Read moreWhat a crappy experience at Acuario Restaurant. From start to finish, the food was truly awful.
We started with the shrimp cocktail, which came with tiny shrimp and plastic-wrapped soda crackers—like we were at a gas station. Classy.
The Mahi Mahi Parrilla I ordered arrived looking exhausted — and it tasted even worse. It was like they microwaved it straight from the freezer aisle, and threw some random oily asparagus spears on the plate for... decoration? Genuinely unclear.
The white rice was bland -not sure if the kitchen knows about salt. The yuca "fries" were terrible—clearly frozen chunks thrown into the fryer still clumped together. Absolutely no effort in preparation or presentation.
My partner ordered the Whole Red Snapper Fried, which was equally bad. One whole side of the fish was hollowed out, with barely any meat. Dry, overcooked, and sad looking. The plating was messy, with rice piled over the dishes. Just look at the pic!
Zero shucks given.
The drinks were allegedly passion fruit flavored, but honestly tasted like someone just gave up halfway and poured us orange juice instead.
There's zero passion at this place. It wasn't even crowded, all the staff were huddled at a table nearby. Overall, the food was lazy, flavorless, and clearly made without any pride or care. Save your money by not...
Read moreTip is included for their terrible service. Got seated then waited so long just to order us drinks. That waiter gave us our drinks then another waiter accidentally came out with our drinks again, but then that waiter ordered our appetizers and was like “wait you didn’t even get bread yet?” We finally got bread by another person but then our appetizers came out shortly after so we didn’t even want the bread anymore. Was halfway through our appetizers when our entrees came and the woman that gave us bread just took my plate that I was still eating from without saying anything so I had to politely say “I’m sorry I wasn’t done” then she just sighed and put it back down. Again waited so long just for our bill but I had to ask ANOTHER waiter for it then we waited AGAIN and I was trying to get anyone’s attention but finally some RANDOM person kindly took our cards. THE PARTY THAT CAME AFTER US, LEFT BEFORE US. the other waiter took forever to come back just to say 1 of the 3 cards declined, we said “sorry that was the wrong card” and she just sighed and was annoyed! THE FOOD WAS OKAY SO IT WAS JUST A...
