EDIT: Increased to 5 stars. Was able to visit two nights in a row. My Visa card worked when I dined in, Visas must not work for to go orders in person. Got the pasta jambalaya yesterday, and had the catfish platter today with fries and Gouda grits. The pasta was a little spicy (good! And what I’d expect from NOLA food!), but could’ve used a bit more seasoning to compliment the spice. Shrimp was cooked to perfection, and the grilled bread they have… I wish I could’ve had 5 more slices of it with my pasta.
For today: the gouda grits were AMAZING. Cheesy buttery deliciousness. Can’t wait to try the shrimp and grits platter. The fries and fish were ok. The fish was HUGE!! I had two huge fillets that were literally the size of my head. About 9-10 inches each in length. However, there is no seasoning in the batter they use. Had to douse it in “hot” sauce and pepper and it was 10x better. The fries also didn’t have any regular salt or seasoning salt. They taste really good on their own, but a seasoning salt blend (similar to how Popeyes uses a seasoning salt blend on their fries) would take the fries up several notches! Ordered the beignets and they were the second star of the show. All beignets I’ve had previously tasted like fried donuts with powdered sugar. Their beignets are actual fried squares of bread, like puff pastry almost. That paired with that delicious bourbon cream sauce I could drink by the gallon was 🤌💋 chef’s kiss Looking forward to returning again.
Original: Saw “new Orleans cuisine” out of the corner of my eye when looking for another new Statesboro restaurant. The other place had incorrect hours online and was actually closed. Decided to try this place instead, but they don’t show up online. Searching “New Orleans restaurant near me” shows nothing.
literally had to retrace my steps like twice to figure out where I saw the restaurant and I finally found it! Name on the street/bldg don’t match the name online. When I walked in I was stunned at how nicely decorated the inside was. Gorgeous color palette, beautifully decorated walls, and a breathtaking ceiling that made me feel like I was stepping into a ritzy 1970s restaurant in Atlanta. Love the decor!
Proceeded to attempt to order take out, but unfortunately their POS (point of sale) system doesn’t take Visa. The hostess was super sweet and apologetic abt it. I tried two different Visa cards, gift card and debit, and neither worked. I don’t carry cash, ever, so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to return. I’m super saddened as I was very excited. Maybe one day if I ever get my hands on some cash, I can return to update my review! Fingers crossed they’ll start accepting visa...
Read moreMy family is originally from Louisiana and we frequently fly over there to New Orleans and surrounding areas. Before I start, all the servers were absolutely incredible and service was amazing, my review is lower because of the food. Our drinks were always refilled, food came quick, and friendly smiles everywhere. It was very clean and everyone looked well put together. I tried the fried green tomatoes, red beans and rice, andoullie sausage po-boy, beignets, and bread pudding. The fried green tomatoes were undercooked, not inedible but close to it. There was no "Cajun" flavor or heat, so if you do not heat they are a safe option. The Andoullie sausage po-boy was.. something. Very few green pepper and onions, barely any sauce, and covered in provolone cheese. The Andoullie sausage was cooked and tasted good, but not very seasoned. The red beans and rice were okay, definitely missing something. My mom ordered this as her entree and was not very happy, said they tasted nothing like what you get in Louisiana. Again, very little spice. Bread pudding was good, tasted authentic but that might just be because of how unauthentic everything else tasted in retrospect. The beignets were honestly pathetic, they were not the boxy shape they usually were and tasted like funnel cake, nothing like a true beignet. Looked like an eclair. Honestly, believe they were baked.l and not deep fried like a usual beignet. Really enjoyed the bread pudding, if I came back I would only get that. The wall decor is stereotypical. Pretty sure the purpose of it was to get people talking, much like the cheesecake factory's strange decor. There's a cool mural that I believe was painted by the owner's daughter, which has fun pops of color and feels like something I'd see back in Louisiana.
Overall, come for the service, don't expect the food to taste like authentic New Orleans food, and you'll have...
Read moreWe walked in and were seated immediately in a booth which was a plus. Too bad it took 15 minutes for us to get our drinks and orders taken. Since the bar tender was our server and seemed more focused on making drinks and chatting with the customers at the bar we had to keep waving her down to order and get refills. There were only 4 people at the bar and we were her only other table, but it also seemed like she had to make the drinks for the whole restaurant. This wasn’t fair to her or us.
I have family members in Louisiana and spent many summers there as a kid, so I was very excited to try this place out and see how “authentic” it was. You cannot compare it to a true Cajun restaurant from LA, but it is definitely better than most Cajun restaurants in this area.
We ordered a couple shrimp poboys and jambalaya pasta and the food was pretty good but the pasta had a few pieces of chicken with BONES in it. Since only a little of it was eaten at the restaurant, my wife didn’t find it until she heated it up the next day. The sweet potato fries I had were super soggy and the sandwiches were a little light on the shrimp for the price. The Jambalaya was spicy (like it should be) and full things but at the same time didn’t have a lot of flavor or even salt.
When we ordered dessert and got the beignets we ordered a few different sauces and were charged extra for them which was no problem if we had gotten the correct ones. We ordered four different and got two vanilla bourbons and a raspberry and never got the 4th.
I want to end this by saying I am willing to give this place another chance and they have the potential to be a very good restaurant, but these mistakes add up to a pretty unpleasant experience for the customer. I was very close to not leaving a review but the chicken bones in the pasta is absolutely unacceptable and I...
