There are very few places that I have been to that I walk out extremely satisfied, Bull and Barrel is one of them. We rolled in right as they opened without a reservation and the young ladies in front were honest and said they would seat us as soon as the reservations were sat we would get a table. Less than ten minutes later we were sat and 2 minutes later the waitress was at our table. We ordered our drinks then appetizers shortly after, we chose the pork belly app and brussells sprouts app. The apps were there in less than 10 minutes and were fantastic. The pork belly was a tad smaller than others I've had in the past but the flavors more than made up for it. The brussells sprouts were cooked and seasoned perfectly, there was also a larger portion than you get at most places. We both ordered the 14 oz ribeye steak and I can honestly say that was the best steak that I haven't cooked myself. The seasonings were just salt and pepper per the manager that stopped by our table to check on our meal and the meat sourced from a farm in the midwest. The steak was juicy, flavorful and tender with each bite. The flavor was not just the outside of the steak but all the way through and that was the best part for me. We got the loaded baked potatoes which were cooked and topped perfectly. The dessert menu was a little short but made up for it in taste, we had the chocolate and peppermint special and it was phenomenal. Bull and Barrel is not like the local chain places you go to get a steak, if your looking for a cheap piece of beef this isn't your place. But if you are not afraid of paying good money for a great meal in a nice atmosphere then give B&B a shot. I can tell you we will definitely be going back.
Update: So we went back and although I didn't think that we could get better than the first time...it did. I added the photo's of our apps, my steak and creamed spinach just to show how amazing the food looks. The creamed spinach was the best that I have ever had in my life, the pork belly was as soft as butter and it just melted in your mouth. The steak was so good that I didn't do my norm of cut it all up then eat it, I went bite by bite enjoying each and every piece. Our waitress (Tessa) did a phenomenal job, she came by our table frequently but didn't always stop so we could really enjoy our conversation and food. If we needed a drink or something taken away then she was right on it and we really enjoyed her service. We are really looking forward to our next visit and we will definitely will be requesting to sit in her area. Great...
Read moreTonight was my birthday, and my hubby and I have been meaning to try this restaurant since we moved here.
I have been in the business for over 20 years, last job being general management - literally worked my way up through the front of the house over the years... so I'm pretty hip to this scene. And this is probably, hands down, the best restaurant in the 'Boro!
I am originally from Boston and he's from Providence, (where they have Fed Hill with all the amazing restaurants). And the Boston area and their people are all foodies!!!! So we appreciate great food... we always say that we miss the cuisine from back home. There are not too many quality restaurants out here, which is too bad. I had even thought about starting one to bring some flavor to the 'Boro! But this restaurant reminds us very much of the Northeast- and we are loving it and all about it!
Our bartender was great- we of course made sure to tip them well. The food was delicious! I got a chicken dish and my hubby got a filet. Both were outstanding!
We are so happy and grateful to have found a place close to our new home, where we can get a taste of the good life! Definitely recommend if you're in the area looking for a restaurant with a nice, tight, small menu, where they do everything really well! That's how you do it, small menus where everything is amazingly done, will win every time! Large menus that are overwhelming to customers, never work... you want your food to stand out! And they've done a great job of doing...
Read moreMy family and Ihad a very good meal when we ate there late last year. The building was very clean and the lighting was bright but not obvious for our tastes. However, it was far too loud when it came to the overall audible ambiance. Due the the layout and open nature of the interior, there wasn't much (if anything) that could be done about the sound volumn of the internal volumn. Food wise, the steak and baked potatoes my stepfather had been cooked perfectly (well-done) and none of the toppings were missing from his side dishes. My mother's fish was cooked perfectly. My shrimp tasted great considering even considering it wasn't fresh. The blackening seasoning not over-powered while not being bland. My big issue with Bull & Barrel isn't the fact there was anything offensive with the meal, it's the fact they know they are legitimately the only "high-end" steak house in Statesboro. For what you get price-wise, it's good but not great. If I'm spending over $50 or possibly $100 for a meal, then I honestly expect slightly more. I do not drink at all so I can't say if the selection of alcohol was satisfactory.
Long story short - Living in cities bigger than Statesboro, GA, I expect more of an overall experience than what we received. Not offensive but at the same time, we will most likely skip this place and just eat somewhere in Charleston / Mount...
