Galactic Comics is an amazing store. The owner really loves what he does. He treats everyone with respect. He is a Navy Veteran and his attention to detail is on display. Joe Ben is an excellent source of comic book information. They are always friendly and leave their personal problems at home.
I have noticed that some reviewers have given four stars for the store being over-priced. This is nonsense. How can the retail, suggested MSRP be over-priced? It is unfair to compare an actual store to Amazon or eBay. Their overhead costs are far less than an local business.
The prices at Galactic are good. I have bought older magazines and comics at good prices. The store does a brisk second hand trade of Magic, Pokémon and Yu Gi Oh (maybe not as much Yu Gi Oh). There are ongoing and seasonal sales. These include "buy 10 1$ comics, get one free" and the "buy 5 regular priced comics, get one free" (mah favorite). Assume 5 regular priced 3.99 comics cost 21$ with tax. The owner, Keith, sells six regular priced comics with roughly a 20% discount (rounded up heavily). There are also 10$ Pokémon grab bags with more than 100 cards! These sell out regularly to mostly kids.
Another claim is that the store is disorganized. The sales floor is organized with many cute, gaming nooks. There is an entire kids section in the front. The board game area looks neat and clean. The disorganized places are behind the sales counters, the back room (where customers are not allowed) and occasionally in the rear gaming area. Bear in mind the gamers in the game room always have enough area to play. Keith and JB move things periodically for players. There are no junky areas where the customers roam.
The behind the counter places are disorganized. It reminds me of the now, mostly defunct, used book stores in the 80's. Keith and JB are like friendly librarians who are constantly cataloging new items. They are always working hard. The store is changing every week to be more squared away. The only real eyesore are that new shipments of boxes are left near the front door. It is forgivable as the orders are processed and placed on the sales floor. They do not hinder entrance into or out of the store. It is noticeable though
It is obvious that this review is by me, a regular customer. I was not asked or paid to give a good review. I am not a schill. I love the Statesboro community and want to support it's local businesses. Galactic Comics and Games puts the F in (F)riendly (L)ocal...
Read moreThis store has a large selection of merchandise, good luck finding what you are looking for. The photos on Google are outdated. Staff does their best to assist when you know what you want, but organization and cleanliness is not a priority here. The large gaming area is cluttered with stacked furniture and random merchandise, and unfortunately smelled as fresh as the filthy bathroom. If you intend on shopping at this location be sure to bring cash as you will be paying a fee for using a credit or debit card. I personally would not recommend this store and will be driving an additional 30 minutes to enjoy a clean and organized experience that doesn't place an additional charge for using...
Read moreThis is an amazing place to visit. They've got a great selection of comics, board games, tabletop, etc. They offer really welcoming and fun weekly gaming nights, which take place in a very generously spaced area. The community is fantastic here; very genuine, kind, and caring.
Keith is extremely committed to the shop, and he works diligently and thoroughly to keep all avenues up to date and accessible. He even does regular FB livestreams and tournaments here.
Though I don't live in SB anymore, after living and exploring other comic shops throughout ATL, I have to say this is by far my favorite. I've yet to come across a place that even stands close to it. I highly recommend...
